“Revolting Rhymes” é um filme de animação para TV composto por 2 curtas de aproximadamente 28 minutos cada sul-africano-britânico-alemão de 2016 dirigido por Jakob Schuh e Jan Lachauer e estrelado pelas vozes originais de Dominic West, Rob Brydon, Bertie Carvel, David Walliams, Tamsin Grieg, Rose Leslie, Gemma Chan, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, e Bel Powley. O filme é baseado no livro “Revolting Rhymes”, escrito por Roald Dahl e ilustrado por Quentin Blake.

O filme interliga contos de fada clássicos como Branca de Neve, Chapeuzinho Vermelho, Os Três Porquinhos, Cinderela e João e o Pé de Feijão, só que com reviravoltas inesperadas e tudo sobre o ponto de vista e narração do Lobo Mau (voz de West).

Só pra constar, pra quem não sabe: eu A-DO-RO curtas de animação, e quando saem os indicados ao Oscar, tento assistir quantos eu puder. Esse foi um dos primeiros dos indicados desse ano que vi (também vi Garden Party e Negative Space (que é o melhor, na minha opinião, até agora)), e quando notei o grande logo da BBC ao lado da tela, pensei: “Eu vou adorar esse curta.”. E eu adorei! O filme possui vários tipos de animação, uma mistura de CGI com stop-motion perfeita, com um elenco de vozes estelar, muito bem escrito, e espetacularmente bem produzido. As histórias dos curtas em si, por terem reviravoltas, não são aquelas originais super sangrentas, mas são sim bem tensas, especialmente as da primeira parte. Dominic West é ameaçador na sua narração como o Lobo Mau, mesmo com as histórias rimadas. Eu particularmente gostei mais da primeira parte do filme, por ser mais tensa e com um final que você definitivamente não esperaria que acontecesse.

A segunda parte, por ser um trabalho mais direcionado ao público infantil, e também pra não traumatizar as coitadas das crianças, tem um final mais feliz, mas não deixa de ser mais adulta do que as versões leves dos contos de fada, mesmo sem cenas chocantes com sangue voando pra todo lado.

Sendo uma obra indicada ao Oscar de Melhor Curta de Animação em 2018, “Revolting Rhymes” é uma versão interessante, levemente deturpada e criativa de contos de fada clássicos, e que merece a sua atenção.

Amei esses curtas demais!! Recomendo que vocês vejam as duas partes de uma vez só!! Nota: 10 de 10!!

“Revolting Rhymes” is a 2016 South African-British-German TV film containing 2 28-minute-short films directed by Jakob Schuh and Jan Lachauer. It stars the voices of Dominic West, Rob Brydon, Bertie Carvel, David Walliams, Tamsin Grieg, Rose Leslie, Gemma Chan, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, and Bel Powley. The film is based on the book of the same name written by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake.

The film intertwines classic fairy tales like Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, Cinderella and Jack and the Beanstalk, but with unexpected twists and all under the point of view and narration of the Big Bad Wolf (voiced by West).

Just to put it out there, to those who don't know: I LOVE animated shorts, and when the Oscar nominees are out, I try to watch as many as possible. This was one of the first nominees in the category I've seen this year (also have seen Garden Party and Negative Space (my personal favorite so far)), and when I noticed the big BBC logo on the screen, I thought: “I'm going to love this.”. And I did! It has several types of animation, a perfect mixture of CGI and stop-motion, with a stellar voice cast, it is well written, and spectacularly well produced. The stories of the shorts, by having twists, it does not mean that it's super gory like the original stories, but they are quite tense, especially the ones in the first part of the film. Dominic West is threatening in his voice performance as the Big Bad Wolf, even with the rhymed stories. I particularly think that the first part is better than the second, for being more tense and twisted, and for having a completely unexpected ending for a children's programme. The second part, because it is a children's programme after all, and to not leave the poor kids traumatized, has a happier ending, but it is still more tense than the light versions of fairy tales, even without shocking scenes with blood and bones everywhere.

Being a Best Animated Short nominee for the 2018 Oscars, “Revolting Rhymes” is an interesting, lightly twisted, creative take on classic fairy tales that deserves your attention.

I really loved these shorts! I highly recommend for you to watch the two parts at once! I give it a 10 out of 10!!

Quando eu ouvi falar de Sean Baker pela primeira vez, foi quando ele lançou o filme Tangerine, que foi filmado com 3 câmeras de iPhone, e eu fiquei tipo: “Caramba, esse cara é brilhante!”. E quando eu ouvi falar de seu novo filme, “Projeto Flórida”, pela primeira vez, pensei: “Nossa, vai ser um daqueles filmes de ficção-científica indie super-legais, só que ambientado na Flórida.”. Felizmente, e infelizmente, eu estava enganado. “The Florida Project” (no original), pra quem não sabe, é o nome de produção do Walt Disney World Resort, em Orlando, onde o filme é ambientado, então já temos no próprio título uma referência ao mundo real. E sinceramente, é um dos filmes mais lindos de 2017. Com 2 milhões de dólares de orçamento, Sean Baker fez uma obra-prima provocante, inocente, e acima de tudo, realista.

O que me chamou a atenção imediatamente sobre “Projeto Flórida” foi a fotografia, com sua paleta de cores em tons pastel e vibrante, fazendo do filme um deleite visual. O roteiro de Sean Baker com Chris Bergoch é simples, porém profundo, restringindo uma história que podia ser ambientada em um lugar bem maior a um pequeno hotel perto da Disney.

Com o ambiente reduzido a, em sua maioria, quartos de hotel, dá espaço para um show de atuações do elenco, com destaque para Willem Dafoe, o único ator realmente conhecido, em uma das melhores atuações da sua carreira até agora, e a pequena Brooklynn Prince, de 7 anos de idade, com mais emoção do que qualquer outra atriz no elenco desse filme, cotando a garota para o Oscar de Melhor Atriz, com uma das melhores atuações por uma criança com menos de 10 anos desde Jacob Tremblay, em “O Quarto de Jack”.

Visualmente deslumbrante, narrativamente emocionante, e impulsionado por atuações marcantes de seu elenco, o indicado ao Globo de Ouro (Melhor Ator Coadjuvante – Willem Dafoe) “Projeto Flórida” é um retrato realista da infância, o melhor filme sobre o assunto desde “Onde Vivem Os Monstros”, e é um filme que a Academia de Artes e Ciências Cinematográficas (que prepara o Oscar) precisa reconhecer.

Amei esse filme demais!!! Recomendo muito para todos vocês! Nota: 9,5 de 10!!

When I first heard about Sean Baker, was when he was promoting his film Tangerine, which was filmed using iPhone cameras, and I was like: “Dang! That guy is brilliant!”. And when I first heard about his new film “The Florida Project”, I thought: “OMG. This is gonna be one of those super-cool indie sci-fi flicks, only set in Florida.”. Fortunately, and unfortunately, I was mistaken. “The Florida Project” is actually the production name for Walt Disney World Resort, in Orlando, where the film is set, which means we've got a real-world reference in the title. And honestly, it's one of the most beautiful films of 2017. With 2 million dollars as a budget, Sean Baker has made a thought-provoking, innocent and, above all, realistic masterpiece.

What immediately caught my attention in “The Florida Project” was the cinematography, with its pastel-colored, vibrant color palette, which makes it a visual delight. The script written by Baker and Chris Bergoch is simple, yet deep, restraining a story that could be set in a larger place to a small hotel near Disney World.

With the sets reduced to, in its majority, hotel rooms, there is enough space for the cast to rock in their performances, especially Willem Dafoe's, being the only one previously known in the cast, delivering one of the best performances of his career, and 7-year-old Brooklynn Prince's, who has more emotion than any of the other actresses in the cast, who has chances to compete for the Oscar for Best Actress, with one of the best performances by a child under 10 since Jacob Tremblay's performance as Jack in “Room”.

Visually astounding, narratively emotional, and bolstered by groundbreaking performances by its cast, the Golden Globe-nominated (Best Supporting Actor – Willem Dafoe) “The Florida Project” is a realistic portrait of childhood, the best film to approach the theme since “Where The Wild Things Are”, and it is a film that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (who organizes the Oscars) must recognize.

I really loved this film!! I highly recommend it to all of you!! I give it a 9,5 out of 10!!!

Miguel (voz de Gonzalez) é um menino de 12 anos que sonha em ser um músico famoso, igual ao seu ídolo, Ernesto de la Cruz (voz de Bratt), mas ele precisa lidar com sua família, que desaprova do seu sonho. Determinado a virar o jogo, ele acaba desencadeando uma série de eventos ligados a um mistério de 100 anos, o que gera uma extraordinária reunião familiar.

Quando vi a sinopse desse filme, fiquei um pouco desapontado, pois o conceito do filme é similar a um dos meus filmes de animação favoritos que não são da Disney, “Festa do Céu”, da Fox, produzido pelo Guillermo del Toro. Mas quando tive acesso ao resultado final do filme, que é um dos filmes de animação mais longos que eu vi (uma hora e cinquenta minutos), tem suas semelhanças, mas o núcleo é bem diferente, e é isso o que faz ele ser mais original e sofisticado do que “Festa no Céu”. Estreando como o primeiro musical da Pixar, “Viva – A Vida é uma Festa” é um verdadeiro deleite para os olhos e os ouvidos. O visual, brilhante, vibrante, e ainda parecido com “Festa no Céu” é uma maravilha, um dos melhores visuais da Disney dos últimos anos. Não tive acesso ao filme em inglês, mas a dublagem está bem legal, nada que estrague o entendimento do filme ou das piadas. Pode-se falar que esse filme é um marco para a Disney, pois não há nenhum tipo de influência americana nesse filme, é uma celebração da diversidade étnica, e da cultura mexicana. O roteiro é bem desenvolvido, assim como os personagens, especialmente o esqueleto Héctor, dublado por Gael García Bernal em inglês.

As canções originais, escritas pelo mesmo time de “Frozen: Uma Aventura Congelante”, em parceria com o diretor Adrian Molina, são uma mescla de inglês com espanhol, o que é simplesmente brilhante. Algumas são mais marcantes do que outras, há o uso de canções do folclore tradicional mexicano também. A canção “Remember Me”, a principal da trilha sonora, é minha favorita, indicada e provavelmente vencedora do Globo de Ouro de Melhor Canção Original, ela nos faz chorar e sorrir ao mesmo tempo. Tem uma parte onde essa música é tocada que eu não aguentei segurar as lágrimas e chorei, porque é muito linda. Resumindo, essa trilha pode muito bem ser a melhor que a Disney já fez desde “Frozen”.

Narrativamente emocionante, sonoramente diversificado, indicado a 2 Globos de Ouro (Melhor Filme de Animação e Melhor Canção Original – Remember Me) e essencialmente mexicano, “Viva: A Vida é uma Festa” é o melhor filme que a Disney-Pixar já fez desde o espetacular “Divertida Mente”, o que definitivamente pode dar grandes chances de ganhar o Oscar de Melhor Filme de Animação, possui a melhor trilha sonora da Disney desde “Frozen”, e é diversão garantida para toda a família!

Amei esse filme demais!! Totalmente recomendo para todos vocês!! Nota: 10 de 10!!!

“Coco” is a 2017 American animated drama/fantasy/musical film directed by Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina. It stars the voices of Anthony Gonzalez, Gael García Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Alanna Ubach, Renée Victor, Ana Ofelia Murguía and Edward James Olmos.

Miguel (voiced by Gonzalez) is a 12-year-old boy who wishes to be a great musician, just like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voiced by Bratt), but he has to deal with his family, that disapproves his dream. Determined to change his destiny, he triggers a series of events that are linked to a 100-year-old mystery, which generates an extraordinary family reunion.

When I saw the plot of this film, I was sort of disappointed, because it was very similar to one of my favorite not-Disney animated films, Fox's “The Book of Life”, produced by Guillermo del Toro. But when I got access to the final result of the film, one of the longest animated films I've ever seen (one hour and fifty minutes), it has its similarities, but its core is quite different, which makes it more original and sophisticated than “Book of Life”. Debuting as Pixar's first musical, “Coco” is a true delight for the eyes and ears. The shiny, vibrant visuals are similar to “Book of Life”, but they are wonderful, one of the best Disney visuals in recent years. It can be said that the film sets a landmark for Disney, because it doesn't have any American references or influence, it is a celebration of ethnic diversity and Mexican culture. The script is well-developed and well paced, and so are its characters, especially the skeleton Héctor, voiced by Gael Garcia Bernal.

The original songs, written by the same team as “Frozen”, along with director Adrian Molina, are a combination of English and Spanish, which is simply brilliant. Some stand out more than others, and there is the use of traditional Mexican folklore songs here too. “Remember Me”, the main song in the soundtrack, is my personal favorite, a nominee (and possibly winner) of the Golden Globe for Best Original Song, it makes us cry and smile at the same time. There is a specific part in this film where the song is played where I couldn't hold back the tears and I cried, a lot, because it is such a beautiful part. Resuming, this might well be the best soundtrack Disney has ever made since “Frozen”.

Narratively thrilling, sonorously diversified, nominated for 2 Golden Globes (Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song – Remember Me), and essentially Mexican, “Coco” is the best film Disney-Pixar has made since the amazing “Inside Out”, which definitely sets its high chances to win Best Animated Film in the Oscars, it has the best Disney soundtrack since “Frozen”, and it is guaranteed fun for the whole family!!

I loved this film!! I highly recommend it for all of you!! I give it a 10 out of 10!!!

O filme é baseado no livro “The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, The Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made”, escrito por Greg Sestero.

O filme conta uma história real e relata a amizade de Tommy Wiseau e Greg Sestero (James e Dave Franco, respectivamente) durante as filmagens de The Room, um filme de 2003 dirigido, produzido, escrito, e estrelado por Wiseau, considerado o “Cidadão Kane dos filmes ruins”.

Só pra esclarecer uma coisa: eu adoro filmes de biografia. “Ed Wood”, “Grandes Olhos”, e por aí vai. Pode-se dizer que “Artista do Desastre” é um “Ed Wood” mais moderno, pois ambos relatam a vida de cineastas famosos por filmes ruins, Wood com “Plano 9 do Espaço Sideral” e “Glen ou Glenda” e Wiseau com “The Room”. É com um suspiro de completo alívio que eu digo que “Artista do Desastre” é o completo contrário de “The Room”. Como o filme de Wiseau é considerado um dos piores filmes já feitos, o filme dirigido por James Franco, que protagoniza o filme como o próprio Tommy Wiseau, em uma performance digna de Oscar, é um dos melhores filmes biográficos que eu já vi. É um filme sobre filmes (um dos meus gêneros favoritos), e sinceramente, faz tempo que um desses filmes não ganha Melhor Filme nos Oscars, acho que desde “O Artista”, em 2012, ou talvez “Birdman”, em 2015.

O filme é muito bem escrito, repleto de referências ao filme de Wiseau, o qual eu ainda não vi, mas sei quais são as cenas-chave, então as entendi. O filme possui uma das melhores atuações de James Franco, a melhor dele desde o seu papel indicado ao Oscar em “127 Horas”, e acho bem provável e justo ele também ser indicado ao Oscar de Melhor Ator por esse filme, assim como ele foi reconhecido nos Globos de Ouro, com uma indicação a Melhor Ator em Comédia ou Musical. Seu irmão Dave, que interpreta Greg Sestero, também tem um ótimo desenvolvimento em sua atuação. A direção de Franco é muito boa, só que acho bem difícil ela ser reconhecida nos Oscars, com Denis Villeneuve, Christopher Nolan e Guillermo del Toro na corrida. O filme tem várias pontas de pessoas famosas, as quais eu não vou citar aqui, porque são surpresas muito legais.

Narrativamente hilário, brilhantemente atuado, e com uma trilha sonora pra lá de nostálgica, o filme indicado a 2 Globos de Ouro (Melhor Filme – Comédia ou Musical, Melhor Ator – Comédia ou Musical – James Franco) “Artista do Desastre” faz muito mais do que relatar as filmagens de um filme ruim, é uma homenagem àqueles sonhadores que possuem uma verdadeira paixão por aquilo que fazem, mesmo sendo bom ou ruim, o que faz eles triunfarem.

Amei esse filme demais!! Espero que ele seja reconhecido no Oscar!! Recomendo demais ele para os amantes de cinema! Nota: 10 de 10!!

“The Disaster Artist” is a 2017 American biographical dramedy film directed by James Franco. It stars James Franco, Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, Alison Brie, Ari Graynor, Josh Hutcherson and Jacki Weaver. It is based on the book “The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, The Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made”, written by Greg Sestero.

The film tells the real story of the friendship between Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero (James and Dave Franco, respectively) in the sets of The Room, a 2003 film directed, produced, written and starring Wiseau, considered the “Citizen Kane of bad movies”.

For starters, I love biography movies. “Ed Wood”, “Big Eyes”, and so it goes. It can be said that “The Disaster Artist” is a contemporary “Ed Wood”, as both films tell the lives of filmmakers known for bad films, Wood has got “Plan 9 from Outer Space” and “Glen or Glenda”, and Wiseau has got “The Room”. It's with a sigh of complete relief when I say that “The Disaster Artist” is the complete opposite of “The Room”. If Wiseau's film is one of the worst films ever made, the film directed by James Franco, who stars as Tommy Wiseau, in an Oscar-worthy performance, is one of the best biographical films I've ever seen! It's a movie about movies (one of my favorite genres), and sincerely, it's been a while since one of these films have won Best Picture in the Oscars, I think since “The Artist”, in 2012, or maybe “Birdman”, in 2015.

It is very well written, with several references to Wiseau's film, which I haven't seen yet, but I know what the key scenes are about, so I understood them. It carries one of the best performances in James Franco's career, his best one since his Oscar-nominated role in “127 Hours”, and I think it's highly probable and fair for him to be nominated for Best Actor again for this film, as he was recognized in the Golden Globes, with a nomination for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. His brother Dave, playing Greg Sestero, also has a great development in his acting technique. Franco's directing is really good, but I think it's pretty hard for it to be nominated for Best Director in the Oscars, with Denis Villeneuve, Christopher Nolan and Guillermo del Toro as frontrunners. There are several cameos in the film, but I'm not gonna say who they are, as they are pleasant surprises.

Narratively hilarious, brilliantly acted, and with a nostalgic soundtrack, the 2 Golden Globe-nominated (Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actor – Musical or Comedy – James Franco) “The Disaster Artist” is way more than just a tie-in to a bad movie, it's a homage to the dreamers who have true passion for what they do, either if it's good or bad, which makes them a triumph.

I really loved this film! I hope it gets a lot of Oscar nominations! I really recommend it to the cinema lovers!! I give it a 10 out of 10!!
