E aí, meus cinéfilos queridos! Tudo bem com vocês? Estou de volta, para falar sobre alguns dos filmes mais esperados do ano para mim. Na postagem de hoje, pretendo listar os 5 filmes pelos quais eu estou mais esperando para ver em 2020, e como nenhum deles estreou até agora, tá valendo! Depois, vou listar alguns que ficaram de fora do top 5, mas que ainda assim, estou esperando muito. Então, vamos começar!

(What's up, my dear film buffs! How are you guys doing? I'm back, in order to talk about some of the most anticipated movies of the year, for me. In today's post, I plan on listing the 5 films I'm expecting the most to watch in 2020, and as none of them premiered so far, it's still on! After, I'll list some that stayed out of the top 5, but that I'm still very interested in watching later this year. So, let's start this!)

5 – TENET, dirigido por Christopher Nolan – Previsão de estreia: 23 de julho

(5 – TENET, directed by Christopher Nolan – When to expect it: July 17)

Para ser honesto, originalmente, “Tenet” estava no terceiro lugar dessa lista, porque todo filme do Nolan é mais um evento do que um filme apenas. E vendo a filmografia do Nolan em geral, temos alguns filmes “normais” (a trilogia do Batman), alguns filmes não-convencionais, mas ainda compreensíveis (Dunkirk, A Origem, Amnésia) e os mindfucks completos, que deixam o espectador confuso e perplexo, pensando no filme por dias, sem saber se entendeu ou não (O Grande Truque, e Interestelar). E tomando por base o trailer, que já está na internet faz um tempo, Tenet pode cair tanto nessa segunda categoria, quanto na terceira. A essência do filme é ser uma história de espionagem com o artifício da viagem no tempo, e nas mãos do Christopher Nolan, temos duas opções: ou pode dar muito certo, e teremos um filme de viagem no tempo que será lembrado positivamente; ou pode acabar sendo confuso e complexo demais, no nível de “Interestelar” ou até de “Dark”, da Netflix. Pensando nessas duas possibilidades, mas ainda sendo otimista sobre as informações que o filme já trouxe (elenco de primeira linha, filmado em 7 países, e uma história de espionagem sob uma roupagem nova), coloco “Tenet” em quinto lugar nessa lista.

(To be honest, originally, “Tenet” was in third place in this list, because every Nolan film is more of an event than just a movie. And looking at Nolan's filmography in general, we have some “normal” films (the Batman trilogy), some unconventional yet comprehensible movies (Dunkirk, Inception, Memento), and the full-on mindfucks, that leave the viewer confused and perplexed, thinking about it for days, not even knowing if they understood it or not (The Prestige, and Interstellar). And by taking the trailer, which has been out there for a while, as basis, Tenet may as well fall on that second category, or maybe the third. The essence of it is to be an espionage story with a time travel twist, and in the hands of Christopher Nolan, we have two options: this either could turn out to be very good, and we'll have a time travel movie to remember positively; or this could turn out to be too confusing and complex, much like “Interstellar” or Netflix's “Dark”. Thinking about these two possibilities, but still remaining optimistic about all the information it has brought to us so far (A-list cast, filmed in 7 countries, and an espionage story with a refreshing set-up), I put “Tenet” in fifth place in this list.)

4 – TURMA DA MÔNICA: LIÇÕES, dirigido por Daniel Rezende – Previsão de estreia: 10 de dezembro

(4 – TURMA DA MÔNICA: LIÇÕES, directed by Daniel Rezende – When to expect it: TBD)

Todo mundo que leu a resenha de “Turma da Mônica – Laços” sabe que eu adorei o primeiro filme. Foi algo que conseguiu transferir da forma mais realista possível os quadrinhos do Maurício de Sousa para um filme live-action. Foi algo que me emocionou bastante, e sinceramente, sem brincadeira mesmo, foi um dos melhores filmes nacionais que eu já vi. Reunindo a mesma equipe criativa do primeiro filme, com Daniel Rezende retornando na direção, Thiago Dottori co-escrevendo o roteiro, e o quarteto composto por Giulia Benite, Kevin Vechiatto, Gabriel Moreira e Laura Rauseo retornando aos papéis-título, só prevejo mais um sucesso para essa série de filmes da Turma. O melhor é que Lições promete ser mais simples e mais realista ainda do que o primeiro filme, com uma trama centrada no período escolar da Turminha do Limoeiro, e locações mais restritas, então tem tudo pra se equiparar ou até ser melhor do que Laços. Com sorte, teremos mais um filme para completar a trilogia de graphic novels dos irmãos Cafaggi, o que poderá começar um universo cinematográfico baseado nos quadrinhos e histórias do Maurício de Sousa, o que, na minha opinião, seria muito bom, tanto para o público-alvo, quanto para aqueles que ainda sentem a nostalgia ao ler essas revistinhas.

(Everyone who read my review for “Turma da Mônica – Laços” knows that I loved the first film. It was something that managed to fully transfer Mauricio de Sousa's comics in the most realistic way possible into a live-action film. It was something that moved me a lot, and honestly, I'm not joking around, it was one of the best Brazilian films I've ever seen. Gathering the same creative team as the first film, with Daniel Rezende returning to direct, Thiago Dottori co-writing the script, and the quartet composed by Giulia Benite, Kevin Vechiatto, Gabriel Moreira and Laura Rauseo returning to the title roles, I can only predict another success for this series of films about Monica's Gang. The best thing is that Lições promises to be more simple and even more realistic than the first film, with a plot focused on the Gang's school period, and more restricted locations, so it literally has everything to be as good or even better than Laços. Luckily, we'll have one more movie in order to complete the Cafaggi siblings's trilogy of graphic novels, which might start a cinematic universe based on Mauricio de Sousa's comics and stories, which, in my opinion, would be very good, for both the target audience, and for those who still feel the nostalgia when reading these comics.)

3 – EM UM BAIRRO DE NOVA YORK, dirigido por Jon M. Chu – Previsão de estreia: 20 de agosto

(3 – IN THE HEIGHTS, directed by Jon M. Chu – When to expect it: June 26)

Todo mundo sabe que eu adoro um bom musical que faz você se sentir bem com a vida. O diferencial desse filme é que ele é baseado em um musical com músicas do Lin-Manuel Miranda, que, pra quem não sabe, é o criador do musical-fenômeno “Hamilton”, um dos musicais de maior sucesso da Broadway atualmente. (E se você, que está lendo esse texto agora, não ouviu ainda a trilha sonora de “Hamilton”, você não sabe o que está perdendo.) Só o trailer desse filme tem 3 coisas que me capturaram a atenção: 1) números musicais em conjunto; 2) coreografias extremamente bem trabalhadas; e 3) uma história que parece ser bastante comovente. Outras razões que me levam a esperar que nem louco esse filme são: a roteirista do filme, Quiara Alegría-Hudes, é a mesma do musical; o filme foi filmado exatamente no bairro em que ele é ambientado (Washington Heights, em Manhattan, Nova York); é um filme que irá tomar como ponto de vista principal a população latina de Nova York, e trazer a trama de mais uma década para os dias atuais, onde o preconceito contra ela cresceu e muito, o que pode colaborar ainda mais para o aspecto comovente da história. Veja o trailer abaixo, e tente não ficar animado para esse filme. Eu te desafio.

(Everyone knows I love a good, old movie musical that makes you feel good about life. The difference this movie has is that it is based on a musical with music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who, for those who don't know, is the creator of the phenomenon musical “Hamilton”, one of the most successful musicals on Broadway these days. (And if you, who is reading this text right now, hasn't listened to the Hamilton soundtrack yet, you don't know what you're missing on.) Just by the trailer, there are 3 things that caught my attention: 1) ensemble musical numbers; 2) extremely well-coreographed coreography; and 3) a story that seems to be very moving. Other reasons that I'm really excited about this movie are: the screenwriter, Quiara Alegría-Hudes, is the same person that wrote the musical; the film was filmed exactly where it is set (Washington Heights, New York City); it's a film that will center on the Latino population of NYC, and that will bring the decade-old plot to the present day, where the prejudice against them grew significantly, which may collaborate for the moving, emotional aspect of the story even more. Check out the trailer below, and try not to feel excited for this movie. I dare you.)

2 – LAST NIGHT IN SOHO, dirigido por Edgar Wright – Previsão de estreia: 05 de novembro

(2 – LAST NIGHT IN SOHO, directed by Edgar Wright – When to expect it: September 25)

Só por ser um filme de terror psicológico com um artifício de viagem no tempo, “Last Night in Soho” já capturou minha atenção. Adicione à receita a direção de Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim Contra o Mundo, Em Ritmo de Fuga), e um elenco violento (Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin McKenzie, Matt Smith, Terence Stamp), e temos aí o que eu acho que pode ser um dos melhores filmes de terror do ano. Como ainda não temos trailer, o conceito do filme é o seguinte: uma menina (interpretada por Thomasin McKenzie), que é obcecada pelos anos 1960, encontra uma maneira de viver essa época através de uma conexão misteriosa com uma mulher que vive nos anos 60 (interpretada por Anya Taylor-Joy), mas ela aprende que cada desejo tem suas consequências. Wright tomou como inspiração os filmes de terror britânicos daquela época, em especial “Repulsa ao Sexo”, dirigido por Roman Polanski, que é um dos filmes mais angustiantes que eu já vi; e “Inverno de Sangue em Veneza”, dirigido por Nicolas Roeg, que é um dos filmes de terror psicológico mais influentes de todos os tempos. Então, com esses filmaços como inspiração, é só esperar que Wright faça um filmaço tão bom quanto os que o inspirou a fazer “Last Night in Soho”.

(Just for the sake of being a psychological horror with a time travel twist, “Last Night in Soho” already caught my attention. Now, add to the recipe the direction of Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Baby Driver), and a killer cast (Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin McKenzie, Matt Smith, Terence Stamp), and then we have what I think that could be one of the best horror films of the year. As we still don't have a trailer for it, here's the concept: a girl (portrayed by Thomasin McKenzie), who is fascinated with the 1960, finds a way of living in that time through a mysterious connection with a woman who actually lives in the 60s (portrayed by Anya Taylor-Joy), but she learns that every wish has its consequences. Wright was inspired by British horror films of that time in order to make this one, especially “Repulsion”, directed by Roman Polanski, which is one of the most spine-tingling movies I've ever seen; and “Don't Look Now”, directed by Nicolas Roeg, which is one of the most influential psychological horror movies ever. So, with these awesome movies as inspiration, one could only hope that Wright makes a movie that's just as awesome as the ones who inspired it.)

1 – THE FRENCH DISPATCH, dirigido por Wes Anderson – Previsão de estreia: não há ainda

(1 – THE FRENCH DISPATCH, directed by Wes Anderson – When to expect it: July 24)

Quando um ano tem filme do Wes Anderson previsto para estrear, não tem pra ninguém na minha lista. Mesmo se o filme não fosse sobre um assunto que adiciona uma camada extra de significação pra mim, ainda seria o filme mais esperado do ano. Mas como é um filme dirigido pelo meu diretor favorito, e é sobre JORNALISMO (para quem ainda não sabe, sou estudante de jornalismo na faculdade), aí, pronto, já ganhou mais importância e mais uma razão para ocupar o primeiro lugar nessa lista. É um filme que reúne Anderson com seus colaboradores frequentes, tanto no elenco (Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, e Jason Schwartzman), quanto nos departamentos técnicos (Robert Yeoman na direção de fotografia; Alexandre Desplat na trilha sonora; Roman Coppola, Hugo Guinness e Jason Schwartzman no roteiro), e também possui o MESMO orçamento de “O Grande Hotel Budapeste”, que é o filme mais tecnicamente sofisticado dele até agora, então tem literalmente TUDO para alcançar o mesmo reconhecimento que “Budapeste” teve, e quem sabe, talvez o tão esperado Oscar do Wes finalmente venha por causa desse filme. É o que todos nós esperamos. Por essas razões (e por muitas outras que não irei listar aqui, porque senão, ia ficar grande demais), “The French Dispatch” é o filme mais esperado do ano, para mim, e com razão.

(When a year has a Wes Anderson film premiering in it, there's no way anybody can compete with it in my book. Even if this wasn't about a subject that infuses it with an extra layer of significance for me, it would still be the most anticipated movie of the year. But as it is a film directed by my favorite director, and it's also about JOURNALISM (for those who still don't know, I am majoring in Journalism in college), then, that's it, it's already more important and more worthy of occupying the first place in this list. It's a film that reunites Anderson with his frequent collaborators, both in the cast (Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and Jason Schwartzman), and in the technical departments (Robert Yeoman in cinematography; Alexandre Desplat in the score; Roman Coppola, Hugo Guinness, and Jason Schwartzman co-writing it), and it also has THE VERY SAME budget as “The Grand Budapest Hotel”, which is his most technically sophisticated movie yet, so it has literally EVERYTHING to achieve the same level of recognition that “Budapest” did, and who knows, maybe Wes's awaited Academy Award finally comes to fruition because of this movie. It's what we all hope. For those reasons (and many more I won't list here, as the post would get really big), “The French Dispatch” is the most anticipated movie of the year for me, and rightfully so.)
