E aí, meus queridos cinéfilos! Tudo bem com vocês? Estou de volta, para listar aqui 10 filmes (e uma série) que serão lançados em 2023, os quais eu considero simplesmente imperdíveis. Este ano contará com vários retornos de diretores conceituados, os filmes mais ambiciosos de seus respectivos cineastas, e algumas certezas de futuros sucessos na temporada de premiações de 2024. Com sorte, entre os 10 filmes listados aqui, haverá algo para todo mundo gostar. Então, sem mais delongas, vamos começar!

(What's up, my dear film buffs! How are you guys doing? I'm back, in order to list here 10 films (and a TV show) that will be released in 2023, and which I consider to be absolute must-watches. This year will count on several returns of renowned directors, the most ambitious films from their respective filmmakers, and some certainties of future hits in the 2024 award season. Luckily, amongst the ten films listed here, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. So, without further ado, let's begin!)

• “ASTEROID CITY”, dirigido por Wes Anderson – Nos cinemas – Sem data de estreia definida

Todo ano em que há um filme de Wes Anderson (o meu diretor favorito, responsável pelas obras-primas contemporâneas “O Fantástico Sr. Raposo”, “Moonrise Kingdom” e “O Grande Hotel Budapeste”) previsto para estrear, esse filme é automaticamente o meu filme mais esperado do ano, e “Asteroid City” (Cidade dos Asteróides, em tradução livre) não é uma exceção. Ambientado em uma cidade desértica norte-americana na década de 1950, o filme acompanhará um encontro de jovens amantes de astronomia, onde as crianças e seus pais embarcam em uma jornada de competições, diversão, drama e romance. “Asteroid City” reunirá Anderson com seu co-roteirista de “Moonrise Kingdom”, Roman Coppola, e contará com o elenco mais invejável do ano, encabeçado por ninguém menos que Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson e Margot Robbie. Além desse trio, teremos o retorno de algumas faces familiares presentes em outras obras do diretor, como Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody e Jason Schwartzman; assim como a presença ilustre de vários atores jovens promissores, como Sophia Lillis (“It: A Coisa”), Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”) e Tony Revolori (“O Grande Hotel Budapeste”). Com sua data de estreia nos EUA prevista para junho, o filme está praticamente confirmado para marcar o retorno de Anderson ao Festival de Cannes, onde estreou seus filmes “Moonrise Kingdom”, de 2012, e “A Crônica Francesa”, de 2021. Ao que tudo indica, “Asteroid City” será o mais próximo que Anderson estará de FINALMENTE ganhar um Oscar desde “O Grande Hotel Budapeste”, e eu MAL POSSO ESPERAR.

(Every year there's a Wes Anderson (aka my favorite director, who made the contemporary masterpieces “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, “Moonrise Kingdom” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel”) film scheduled to release, that film is automatically my most anticipated one of the year, and “Asteroid City” is no exception. Set in an American desert town in the 1950s, the film will follow a gathering of young astronomy lovers, where the children and their parents embark on a journey of competitions, recreation, drama and romance. “Asteroid City” will reunite Anderson with his “Moonrise Kingdom” co-writer, Roman Coppola, and will rely on the most enviable cast of the year, led by none other than Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson and Margot Robbie. Besides that trio, we'll have the return of some familiar faces in the director's previous works, such as Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman; as well as the illustrious presence of several promising young actors, such as Sophia Lillis (“It”), Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”) and Tony Revolori (“The Grand Budapest Hotel”). With its release date scheduled for June, the film is practically confirmed to mark Anderson's return to the Cannes Film Festival, where he premiered his films “Moonrise Kingdom” in 2012, and “The French Dispatch” in 2021. As the stars align, “Asteroid City” will be the closest Anderson will be of FINALLY winning an Oscar since “The Grand Budapest Hotel”, and I CAN'T WAIT.)

O que é melhor do que um filme de Wes Anderson estreando em 2023? Ora, DOIS FILMES dirigidos por Wes Anderson estreando em 2023! “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” (A Maravilhosa História de Henry Sugar, em tradução livre) marcará a segunda adaptação do trabalho de Roald Dahl dirigida por Anderson (após “O Fantástico Sr. Raposo”) e sua primeira obra em parceria com a Netflix, possibilitando um alcance maior para que muitas pessoas sejam introduzidas ao trabalho do diretor. Não se sabe se o filme acompanhará somente a história que empresta o título da obra (a qual é sobre um trapaceiro de marca maior que bola um plano aparentemente infalível para ganhar todo jogo de cartas) ou se será uma antologia, abordando todas as sete histórias contidas no livro de Dahl, “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More”. Porém, uma coisa já é de conhecimento público: o filme, assim como “Asteroid City”, contará com um elenco incrível, encabeçado por Benedict Cumberbatch (“Doutor Estranho”), Dev Patel (“Quem Quer Ser Um Milionário?”), Ralph Fiennes (“O Grande Hotel Budapeste”), Ben Kingsley (“Gandhi”) e Richard Ayoade (“Paddington 2”). Wes Anderson entregará duas obras-primas em 2023? Vamos esperar para ver, mas espero que sim!

(What's better than one Wes Anderson film premiering in 2023? Well, TWO FILMS directed by Wes Anderson premiering in 2023! “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” will mark the second adaptation of Roald Dahl's work directed by Anderson (after “Fantastic Mr. Fox”) as well as his first work in partnership with Netflix, making it so that its wider approach is able to introduce many people to the director's work. It's unknown whether the film will follow only the story it borrows its title from (which is about a first-rate con man who comes up with an apparently flawless plan to win every card game) or if it will be an anthology, going through all seven stories contained in Dahl's book, “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More”. However, one thing is already known to the public: the film, just like “Asteroid City”, will rely on an amazing cast, led by Benedict Cumberbatch (“Doctor Strange”), Dev Patel (“Slumdog Millionaire”), Ralph Fiennes (“The Grand Budapest Hotel”), Ben Kingsley (“Gandhi”) and Richard Ayoade (“Paddington 2”). Will Wes Anderson deliver two masterpieces in 2023? We'll have to wait and see, but I really hope so!)

• “HOW DO YOU LIVE?”, dirigido por Hayao Miyazaki – Nos cinemas – Sem data de estreia definida

Qualquer lista de filmes mais esperados de 2023 que não inclua a nova obra de Hayao Miyazaki (responsável pela única animação japonesa a vencer o Oscar de Melhor Filme de Animação, “A Viagem de Chihiro”) entre os dez primeiros deve ser automaticamente invalidada. (Risos) Simplesmente porque esse é o primeiro trabalho do mestre da animação japonesa em uma década, após o que era para ser o seu último filme, o incrível “Vidas ao Vento”, de 2013. Voltando à animação tradicional após o experimento falho de “Aya e a Bruxa” em computação gráfica, a nova obra do Studio Ghibli e de Miyazaki terá como inspiração o livro “How Do You Live?” (Como Você Vive?, em tradução livre), escrito por Genzaburo Yoshino, que conta a história de um jovem de 15 anos que aprende a crescer, tanto fisicamente quanto espiritualmente e intelectualmente, ao morar com o tio por um tempo, agregando conhecimento sobre o que significa viver como um ser humano no processo. Porém, o filme não será uma adaptação propriamente dita do livro de Yoshino, mas usará a obra como instrumento para desenvolver o seu protagonista. Se isso não for o suficiente para aumentar suas expectativas, “How Do You Live?” é proposto como um presente de despedida de Miyazaki, que já está em idade avançada, para seu neto. Academia, pode já dar o segundo Oscar de Melhor Filme de Animação pro Studio Ghibli. É o mínimo que vocês podem fazer após darem os Oscars de “Vidas ao Vento” e “O Conto da Princesa Kaguya” para “Frozen” e “Operação Big Hero”.

(Any list of 2023's most anticipated films that doesn't include the new work by Hayao Miyazaki (responsible for the only Japanese animated film to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, “Spirited Away”) among the first ten should be automatically invalidated. (LOL) Simply because this is the first work by the Japanese master of animation in a decade, after what was supposed to be his swan song, the amazing “The Wind Rises”, from 2013. Returning to traditional animation after the failed CGI experiment of “Earwig and the Witch”, the new work from Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki will be inspired by the book “How Do You Live?”, written by Genzaburo Yoshino, which tells the story of a 15-year-old who learns to grow, both physically as well as intellectually and spiritually, when living with his uncle for a while, aggregating knowledge on what it means to live as a human being in the process. However, the film won't be a by-the-book adaptation of Yoshino's novel, but it will use the work as an instrument to develop its protagonist. If that isn't enough to enhance your expectations, “How Do You Live?” is proposed as a parting gift from Miyazaki, who has already aged, to his grandson. Academy, go ahead and give Studio Ghibli their second Oscar for Best Animated Feature. It's the least you could do after giving the Oscars that should've gone to “The Wind Rises” and “The Tale of the Princess Kaguya” to “Frozen” and “Big Hero 6”.)

• “KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON”, dirigido por Martin Scorsese – Filme Original Apple TV+ - Sem data de estreia definida

O inimigo público número 1 dos fãs de filmes de super-heróis está de volta, com um novo filme super ambicioso, que marca sua segunda parceria com um serviço de streaming, após três projetos de enorme sucesso na Netflix. O novo trabalho do cineasta vencedor do Oscar responsável por “Taxi Driver”, “Os Bons Companheiros”, “A Invenção de Hugo Cabret” e “Os Infiltrados” terá como base o livro de não-ficção “Assassinos da Lua das Flores”, de David Grann, que aborda uma série de assassinatos em uma comunidade nativo-americana no estado de Oklahoma na década de 1920 após a descoberta de petróleo em terras indígenas, levando à uma das primeiras investigações em larga escala do FBI, liderada por J. Edgar Hoover. Se a história não for o suficiente para criar expectativas, o filme contará com um elenco encabeçado por Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert DeNiro, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow e Lily Gladstone. Infelizmente, “Killers of the Flower Moon” ainda não tem uma data de estreia definida, mas rumores apontam que o filme terá sua primeira exibição no prestigiado Festival de Cannes esse ano, onde certamente será uma das sessões mais requisitadas.

(The number one public enemy of superhero movie fans is back, with a new uber-ambitious film, which marks his second partnership with a streaming service, after three highly successful projects on Netflix. The new work by the Oscar-winning filmmaker responsible for “Taxi Driver”, “GoodFellas”, “Hugo” and “The Departed” will be based off the non-fiction book of the same name, written by David Grann, which deals with a series of murders in a Native American community in the state of Oklahoma in the 1920s after the discovery of oil in indigenous land, leading to one of the first grand-scale investigations from the FBI, led by J. Edgar Hoover. If the story isn't enough to raise expectations, the film will rely on a cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert DeNiro, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow and Lily Gladstone. Unfortunately, “Killers of the Flower Moon” still hasn't a confirmed release date, but rumors point to the film's first screening to be at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival this year, where it'll certainly be one of the most sought-after screenings.)

• “THE KILLER”, dirigido por David Fincher – Filme Original Netflix – Sem data de estreia definida

David Fincher (“Clube da Luta”, “Se7en”) têm tido uma parceria extremamente prazerosa com a gigante Netflix, liderando projetos como “Mindhunter”, “Love, Death and Robots” e o aclamado “Mank”. E seu novo filme, “The Killer” (O Assassino, em tradução livre), promete ser mais uma obra-prima no catálogo da Netflix e do cineasta. Baseado em uma história em quadrinhos francesa escrita pelo quadrinista Matz, o filme seguirá Christian (interpretado por Michael Fassbender), um assassino de sangue-frio que não possui uma bússola moral, sendo conduzido por seus nervos de aço e pelo dedo no gatilho. De repente, os crimes que Christian cometeu começam a assombrá-lo, levando-o a um gradual desmoronamento emocional e psicológico. Co-estrelado por Tilda Swinton, o filme marca a reunião do diretor de “Garota Exemplar” com quatro de seus melhores colaboradores: o roteirista Andrew Kevin Walker, responsável pelo roteiro de “Se7en”; o diretor de fotografia Erik Messerschmidt, responsável pela fotografia impecável de “Mank”; e os compositores Trent Reznor e Atticus Ross, responsáveis pela trilha sonora vencedora do Oscar de “A Rede Social”. Based on a French graphic novel written by comic book artist Matz, the film will follow Christian (portrayed by Michael Fassbender), a cold-blooded assassin who doesn't have a moral compass, being moved by his nerves of steel and his trigger finger. Suddenly, the crimes Christian committed start catching up to him, leading him into a slow emotional and psychological descent. Co-starring Tilda Swinton, the film marks the reunion of the “Gone Girl” director with four of his best collaborators: screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker, responsible for writing “Se7en”; cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt, responsible for the flawless visuals of “Mank”; and composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, responsible for the Oscar-winning score of “The Social Network”. You just can't miss this.)

• “OPPENHEIMER”, dirigido por Christopher Nolan – Nos cinemas – Estreia dia 20 de Julho

Aqui está um fato que nem todos estão prontos para aceitar: Christopher Nolan, o cineasta responsável por filmes complexos como “Interestelar”, “A Origem” e “Tenet”, trabalha melhor quando aborda assuntos mais realistas em suas obras. Não estou tirando o crédito dos filmes citados acima, só afirmando que os filmes mais “pé no chão” de Nolan, como a trilogia do Cavaleiro das Trevas, “O Grande Truque” e “Dunkirk” são bem mais fáceis de serem digeridos pelo público. E ao que tudo indica, “Oppenheimer” seguirá a linha desses filmes mais realistas. Estrelando Cillian Murphy (“Peaky Blinders”) no papel principal, o filme será uma biografia do físico teórico J. Robert Oppenheimer, o diretor do Laboratório Los Alamos durante o Projeto Manhattan, que contribuiu para o desenvolvimento de armas nucleares, mais notavelmente, a bomba atômica. Além de Murphy, o filme contará com nomes como Emily Blunt (“Um Lugar Silencioso”), Matt Damon (“O Último Duelo”), Florence Pugh (“Midsommar”), Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot”) e Gary Oldman (“O Destino de Uma Nação”) em um grande elenco. “Oppenheimer” também reunirá Nolan com o diretor de fotografia Hoyte van Hoytema, responsável pelos visuais dos três últimos filmes do cineasta; e o compositor Ludwig Göransson, que compôs a trilha sonora original de “Tenet”. (Here's a fact that not everyone is ready to accept: Christopher Nolan, the filmmaker responsible for complex movies such as “Interstellar”, “Inception” and “Tenet”, works better when he approaches more realistic subjects in his works. I'm not taking away any of the credit from the aforementioned films, only affirming that Nolan's more “grounded” films, such as the Dark Knight trilogy, “The Prestige” and “Dunkirk” are way easier to be understood by an audience. And as to what it seems, “Oppenheimer” will follow along those more realistic films. Starring Cillian Murphy (“Peaky Blinders”) in the main role, the film will be a biopic of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, the director of Los Alamos Laboratory during the Manhattan Project, which contributed to the development of nuclear weapons, most notably, the atomic bomb. Besides Murphy, the film will rely on names like Emily Blunt (“A Quiet Place”), Matt Damon (“The Last Duel”), Florence Pugh (“Midsommar”), Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot”) and Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour”) in an ensemble cast. “Oppenheimer” will also reunite Nolan with cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, who shot the gorgeous visuals of Nolan's last three films; and composer Ludwig Göransson, who wrote the original score for “Tenet”. But, most notably, the film will recreate the Trinity nuclear test (the first detonation of a nuclear weapon) with visual effects that are 100% practical, discarding the use of CGI. This will be one hell of a theatrical experience.)

• “BARBIE”, dirigido por Greta Gerwig – Nos cinemas – Estreia dia 20 de Julho

Estreando no mesmo dia de “Oppenheimer”, temos o novo filme da diretora de “Lady Bird” e “Adoráveis Mulheres”, que fará seu primeiro blockbuster com “Barbie”, filme da boneca icônica criada pela Mattel. Pouco se sabe sobre a sinopse, mas, baseado no que foi revelado até agora, o filme abordará diversas versões da boneca e de seu namorado, Ken, sendo interpretados por diversos atores e atrizes, à la “Doutor Estranho no Multiverso da Loucura”. Liderando o elenco, temos Margot Robbie (“Aves de Rapina”) e Ryan Gosling (“La La Land”) como a Barbie e o Ken “principais”, com outras Barbies supostamente sendo interpretadas por Issa Rae (“Insecure”), Nicola Coughlan (“Bridgerton”) e Emma Mackey (“Sex Education”); e outros Kens sendo interpretados por Simu Liu (“Shang-Chi”), Ncuti Gatwa (“Sex Education”) e Michael Cera (“Scott Pilgrim Contra o Mundo”). Pode-se assumir pelo trailer, que faz uma clara referência à “2001: Uma Odisseia no Espaço”, que “Barbie” pode não ser um filme para toda a família, mas pode muito bem conter mensagens bem-vindas sobre aceitação e diversidade, veiculadas através das várias versões dos brinquedos presentes no filme. Co-escrito por Noah Baumbach (“História de um Casamento”), “Barbie” certamente é um dos filmes mais intrigantes do ano, e eu mal posso esperar para fazer uma sessão dupla dele com “Oppenheimer”. (Releasing on the same day as “Oppenheimer”, we have the new film by the director of “Lady Bird” and “Little Women”, who will make her first blockbuster with “Barbie”, a film about the iconic doll created by Mattel. Little is known about the plot, but, based on what was revealed to date, the film will approach several versions of the doll and her boyfriend, Ken, being played by diverse actors and actresses, similar to “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. Leading the cast, we have Margot Robbie (“Birds of Prey”) and Ryan Gosling (“La La Land”) as the “main” Barbie and Ken, with other Barbies supposedly being played by Issa Rae (“Insecure”), Nicola Coughlan (“Bridgerton”) and Emma Mackey (“Sex Education”); and other Kens being played by Simu Liu (“Shang-Chi”), Ncuti Gatwa (“Sex Education”) and Michael Cera (“Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”). It can be assumed from the trailer, which clearly alludes to “2001: A Space Odyssey”, that “Barbie” may not be a family-oriented film, but it might as well be carrying welcome messages on acceptance and diversity, communicated through the toys' several versions in the film. Co-written by Noah Baumbach (“Marriage Story”), “Barbie” is certainly one of the year's most intriguing films, and I just can't wait to make a double feature of it and “Oppenheimer”. (LOL))

• “BEAU IS AFRAID”, dirigido por Ari Aster – Nos cinemas – Sem data de estreia definida

O novo filme do diretor de “Hereditário” e “Midsommar” irá misturar dois gêneros que se encontram em completos opostos extremos: comédia e terror. Estrelando o vencedor do Oscar Joaquin Phoenix (“Coringa”), “Beau is Afraid” (Beau Está com Medo, em tradução livre) será uma biografia fictícia de um homem de negócios de sucesso, Beau, abordando desde sua infância até sua velhice. Quando sua mãe morre, Beau embarca em uma jornada para casa que envolve ameaças insanas e sobrenaturais. Épico e surreal em sua escala, o filme inicialmente tinha um corte de nada menos que QUATRO HORAS de duração, mas rumores apontam que a A24 exigiu que o filme fosse reduzido à uma duração ainda extensa de 180 minutos, ou seja, três horas. Mesmo assim, “Beau is Afraid” promete ser o retorno triunfal de Ari Aster após quatro anos desde seu último filme, sendo bastante similar, conceitualmente, às obras de cineastas surrealistas como Charlie Kaufman (“Estou Pensando em Acabar com Tudo”) e David Lynch (“Twin Peaks”). Pode ser este o filme que finalmente dará às obras de Aster indicações ao Oscar? Teremos que esperar para ver (o trailer em si será lançado na terça-feira), mas entre nós, acho extremamente provável.

(The new film by the director of “Hereditary” and “Midsommar” will blend together two genres that are in complete, extreme opposites: comedy and horror. Starring Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix (“Joker”), “Beau is Afraid” will be a fictional biopic of a successful entrepreneur, Beau, approaching from his childhood to his old age. When his mother dies, Beau embarks on a journey home that involves wild and supernatural threats. Epic and surreal in scope, the film initially had a rough cut of nothing less than FOUR HOURS long, but rumors point out that A24 demanded the film to be reduced to a still-extended runtime of 180 minutes, meaning, three hours. Even so, “Beau is Afraid” promises to be Ari Aster's triumphant return four years since his last film, being quite similar, in concept, to the works of surrealistic filmmakers such as Charlie Kaufman (“I'm Thinking of Ending Things”) and David Lynch (“Twin Peaks”). Could this be the film that will finally give Aster's work Oscar nominations? We'll have to wait and see (the trailer itself will be released on Tuesday), but between you and me, I think it's highly likely.)

• “NEXT GOAL WINS”, dirigido por Taika Waititi – Nos cinemas – Estreia dia 21 de Setembro

Após um filme extremamente mediano na Marvel, “Thor: Amor e Trovão”, é de se esperar que o diretor neozelandês Taika Waititi retorne às suas raízes do cinema independente com “Next Goal Wins” (O Próximo Gol Vence, em tradução livre), um filme baseado em uma história real, por mais incrível que pareça. Baseado em um documentário de 2014, o filme abordará a jornada de um técnico renomado de futebol (interpretado por Michael Fassbender) para transformar a equipe nacional da Samoa Americana, considerado um dos times mais fracos da história do esporte, em um grupo de elite. Além de Fassbender, o filme terá Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid's Tale”), Will Arnett (“BoJack Horseman”) e Rachel House (“A Incrível Aventura de Ricky Baker”) no elenco. Pela sinopse, pode-se assumir que o filme será narrativamente MUITO parecido com “Jamaica Abaixo de Zero”, que aborda uma história similar. Mas sinto que o senso de humor característico de Waititi, presente em filmes como “O Que Nós Fazemos nas Sombras” e “Jojo Rabbit” (que lhe rendeu o Oscar de Melhor Roteiro Adaptado) vai fazer com que essa história cativante se eleve acima das demais e se torne algo realmente pessoal para seu realizador, o que é sempre bom.

(After an extremely mixed bag on Marvel, “Thor: Love and Thunder”, it is to be expected that New Zealand-born director Taika Waititi returns to his independent cinema roots with “Next Goal Wins”, a film based on a real story, as unlikely as it may seem. Based off a 2014 documentary, the film will follow the journey of a renowned soccer coach (played by Michael Fassbender) in order to transform the American Samoa national team, which is considered one of the weakest teams in the sport's history, into an elite group. Besides Fassbender, the film will have Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid's Tale”), Will Arnett (“BoJack Horseman”) and Rachel House (“Hunt for the Wilderpeople”) in its cast. Through the synopsis, it can be assumed that the film will be narratively VERY similar to “Cool Runnings”, which deals with a similar story. But I feel that Waititi's signature sense of humor, present in films like “What We Do In the Shadows” and “Jojo Rabbit” (which won him the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay) will make this captivating story stand above all others and become something really personal for its filmmaker, which is always good.)

A segunda adaptação de Roald Dahl presente nessa lista, “Wonka” acompanha a juventude de um dos personagens mais icônicos do autor: o chocolateiro Willy Wonka, de “A Fantástica Fábrica de Chocolate”. Como o jovem Wonka, teremos os talentos do indicado ao Oscar Timothée Chalamet (“Duna”), apoiado por grandes nomes como Keegan Michael-Key (“Key and Peele”), Sally Hawkins (“A Forma da Água”), Olivia Colman (“A Favorita”) e Rowan Atkinson (O MR. BEAN!!!) em papéis coadjuvantes. Acima de tudo isso, o filme também será um musical, assim como as duas versões cinematográficas de “A Fantástica Fábrica de Chocolate”. Mas, se tem uma razão para minhas expectativas estarem altíssimas para assistir “Wonka”, sem dúvidas, é a direção do Paul King. Para aqueles que não sabem, King é responsável pela franquia de filmes para a família “Paddington”, composta por dois filmes praticamente impecáveis que são capazes de agradar as crianças e fazer com que os adultos se sintam como crianças novamente. E além de King, o filme também contará com outros colaboradores de “Paddington”, como o roteirista Simon Farnaby, o editor Mark Everson e o produtor David Heyman. Uma coisa eu espero de “Wonka”: que ele consiga reter o mesmo encanto infantil agradável para toda a família presente nos filmes de “Paddington”. Sendo assim, já é um dos filmes mais esperados do ano e um presente perfeito de Natal. CHEGA LOGO, DEZEMBRO!!

But, if there's one reason for my expectations to be that high to watch “Wonka”, without a doubt, it's Paul King's direction. To those who don't know, King is responsible for helming the family film franchise “Paddington”, composed by two practically flawless films that are able to please children and make adults feel like children again. And besides King, the film will also rely on other “Paddington” collaborators, such as screenwriter Simon Farnaby, editor Mark Everson and producer David Heyman. There's just one thing I expect from “Wonka”: that it manages to retain the same childlike wonder that's pleasant for the whole family, which is omnipresent in the “Paddington” films. Being like that, it's already one of the most anticipated films of the year and a perfect holiday gift. DECEMBER CAN'T COME SOON ENOUGH!!)

Quem segue o blog por tempo suficiente sabe o lugar especial que a franquia de videogames “The Last of Us” guarda no meu coração. Amei cada segundo que passei jogando tanto a remasterização do primeiro jogo quanto a controversa segunda parte, não só pela jogabilidade, mas principalmente pela história. (Inclusive, tem resenha dos dois jogos aqui no blog.) Ambientada em um cenário pós-apocalíptico onde as pessoas estão infectadas por fungos que as transformam em zumbis, a trama acompanha Joel (interpretado por Pedro Pascal), um contrabandista atarefado com a missão de transportar Ellie (interpretada por Bella Ramsey), uma garota de 14 anos que é imune à infecção, para o outro lado dos EUA, para que uma facção não-governamental extraia uma cura. Juntos, Joel e Ellie enfrentam ameaças e perigos tanto infectados quanto 100% humanos no caminho, levando os dois a terem uma relação improvável de pai e filha. Se a adaptação da HBO fosse comandada por qualquer outra pessoa, eu iria torcer o nariz. Mas, com a série contando com o envolvimento de Craig Mazin (responsável pela obra-prima que é “Chernobyl”) e Neil Druckmann (roteirista dos dois primeiros jogos de “The Last of Us”) na produção, roteiro e direção, tudo aponta para que a versão televisiva do jogo aclamado da Naughty Dog quebre, com enorme sucesso, a maldição das adaptações de videogames presente nos dias de hoje. A primeira temporada de 9 episódios abordará a trama inteira do primeiro jogo, seguindo fielmente os principais pontos-chave do enredo e expandindo em aspectos deixados implícitos no material original. E, assim como o jogo, espera-se que a série seja também essencialmente cinematográfica, contando com a direção de cineastas renomados como Ali Abbasi (“Holy Spider”) e Jasmila Zbanic (“Quo Vadis, Aida?”), assim como efeitos visuais de maquiagem elaborados por Barrie Gower (responsável pelo design do Vecna em “Stranger Things”). E só para aumentar as expectativas de vocês um tiquinho a mais: o episódio de estreia vai ter OITENTA E CINCO MINUTOS DE DURAÇÃO (1 hora e 25 minutos). É isso.

(Those who have been following the blog for long enough know the special place that the videogame franchise “The Last of Us” holds on my heart. I loved every second I spent playing both the remaster of the first game and its controversial second chapter, not only for its gameplay, but mainly for its story. (There are reviews for both games in the blog, BTW.) Set in a post-apocalyptic scenario where people get infected by fungi that turn them into zombies, the plot follows Joel (played by Pedro Pascal), a smuggler who is tasked with the mission of transporting Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl who is immune to the infection, across the US, so that a non-government faction can extract a cure. Together, Joel and Ellie face threats and dangers both infected as well as 100% human on the way, leading both of them into having an unlikely father-daughter relationship. If the HBO adaptation was helmed by anyone else, I'd be extremely doubtful. But, as the show relies on the involvement of Craig Mazin (who made the masterpiece that is “Chernobyl”) and Neil Druckmann (who wrote the two first “Last of Us” games) in producing, writing and directing it, it all leads to the possibility of the TV version of Naughty Dog's acclaimed game breaking, with an enormous success, the videogame adaptation curse present nowadays. The 9-episode first season will cover the first game's entire plot, faithfully following the main key points in the narrative and expanding on aspects left implied in the original material. And, just like the game, it is hoped that the series is also essentially cinematic, counting on the talents of renowned directors like Ali Abbasi (“Holy Spider”) and Jasmila Zbanic (“Quo Vadis, Aida?”), and also make-up special effects by Barrie Gower (the one responsible for Vecna's visuals in “Stranger Things”). And, just to lift your expectations a tiny bit higher: the season premiere will have a runtime of EIGHTY-FIVE MINUTES (1 hour and 25 minutes). That's all, folks.)
