4 – MELHOR ATOR (BEST ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE)

QUEM VAI E MERECE GANHAR: GARY OLDMAN, POR “O DESTINO DE UMA NAÇÃO”

(WHO WILL AND DESERVES TO WIN: GARY OLDMAN, FROM “DARKEST HOUR”)

Apesar que foi uma surpresa, particularmente, pra mim, de “O Destino de uma Nação” ser indicado ao prêmio principal da noite, não foi surpresa que a atuação de Gary Oldman estaria entre os indicados a Melhor Ator. Encarnando o ex-primeiro ministro da Inglaterra Winston Churchill, debaixo de uma maquiagem extremamente bem-feita, pois parece mesmo que Oldman é Churchill, o ator traz vida ao filme de Joe Wright, mais conhecido por “Orgulho e Preconceito”, com momentos tensos e cômicos, e com particularmente, uma cena, pra mim, que já valeu o filme inteiro. Eu gostei bastante de “O Destino de uma Nação”, mas a atuação de Gary Oldman, é, pra mim, uma das melhores representações de figuras reais em filmes dos últimos tempos, e ele, depois de sua primeira indicação pelo fantástico “O Espião que Sabia Demais”, pode e merece ganhar sua primeira estatueta do Oscar.

(Though it was a particular surprise, for me, that “Darkest Hour” got nominated for the main award of the evening, it wasn't a surprise that Gary Oldman's performance would be between the nominees for Best Actor. Incarnating the former Prime Minister of England, Winston Churchill, underneath heavy and extremely well-made makeup, which really makes it feel like Oldman is Churchill, the actor gives life to the film directed by Joe Wright, most known for “Pride and Prejudice”, with tense and funny moments, and with a scene, that in my opinion, is worth the entire ride. I really liked “Darkest Hour”, but Gary Oldman's performance is, for me, one of the best representations of real life figures in film in these past years, and he, after his first nomination for the fantastic “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”, can and deserves to win his first Academy Award.)

5 – MELHOR ATRIZ (BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE)

QUEM VAI GANHAR: FRANCES MCDORMAND, POR “TRÊS ANÚNCIOS PARA UM CRIME”

(WHO WILL WIN: FRANCES MCDORMAND, FROM “THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI”)

É inegável que Frances McDormand entrega uma das suas melhores performances no novo filme de Martin McDonagh. Depois de papéis coadjuvantes em outros filmes, alguns de seu próprio marido e do irmão dele (Irmãos Coen), ela finalmente achou um papel digno de vários prêmios, os quais ela continua ganhando. Ela é brutal, destruidora, vingativa, em alguns poucos momentos, sensível, e quando necessário, violenta como Mildred Hayes. O filme possui um elenco coadjuvante de peso (constituído pelos também indicados Sam Rockwell e Woody Harrelson), mas Frances é o coração e alma do drama lotado de humor negro. Ela ganhou todos os prêmios de atuação imagináveis por esse filme (Globo de Ouro, BAFTA, SAG, e por aí vai), e seria até justo ela ganhar o Oscar, pois sinceramente, eu AMEI a atuação da Frances!! E não seria a primeira vez que ela leva a estatueta, pois ela já ganhou uma pelo papel inesquecível de Marge Gunderson em Fargo, dos Irmãos Coen.

Frances McDormand arrasou, e isso é um fato.

(It's undeniable that Frances McDormand delivers one of her best performances in Martin McDonagh's new film. After several supporting roles in other films, some of them directed by her husband and his brother (The Coen Brothers), she finally found an award-worthy role, which she keeps receiving acclaim from. She's brutal, destructive, vindictive, in some moments, sensitive, and when necessary, violent as Mildred Hayes. The film has a heavy supporting cast (built by the also nominated Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson), but Frances is the heart and soul of the dark humored drama. She won every acting award you can imagine because of this film (Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG, and so it goes), and it would be even fair to give her the award, because honestly, I LOVED Frances' performance! And it wouldn't be the first time she gets the award, as she won because of the unforgettable role of Marge Gunderson in the Coen Brothers' Fargo. Frances McDormand nailed it, and that's a fact.)

QUEM EU QUERIA QUE GANHASSE: SALLY HAWKINS, POR “A FORMA DA ÁGUA”

(WHO I WISH THAT COULD WIN: SALLY HAWKINS, FROM “THE SHAPE OF WATER”)

Não sei se foi porque o papel de Hawkins como Elisa em A Forma da Água era sem falas e apenas com sinais, mas eu (EU) me simpatizei bem mais com a Sally do que com a Frances. Pelo fato da personagem ser muda, Hawkins deixa o trabalho inteiro para suas expressões faciais. Ela consegue transmitir qualquer expressão possível nesse filme: felicidade, tristeza, raiva, curiosidade, frustração, indignação, suplício, compaixão, medo, coragem, etc., tudo sem dizer UMA. ÚNICA. PALAVRA. Eu vou deixar uma coisa bem clara aqui: a Sally merecia o Oscar desde “Simplesmente Feliz”, de Mike Leigh, ao interpretar a ultra-otimista Poppy. Ela foi indicada por Blue Jasmine, o qual eu ainda não vi, em Melhor Atriz Coadjuvante, então não é a primeira vez que ela é reconhecida pela Academia. Ela também merecia pelo menos uma indicação pelo independente “Maudie”, mas não foi dessa vez. Eu me apaixonei pela Elisa, me preocupei, me importei com a personagem durante as duas horas de filme, coisa que, infelizmente, não aconteceu com Mildred Hayes, protagonista de “Três Anúncios...”. O negócio é assim: se a Frances ganhar, não vou ficar surpreso, pois como dito acima, a atriz simplesmente detona, mas se a Sally ganhar, vai ser a entrega do prêmio para o Guillermo del Toro tudo de novo (Risos)... A Forma da Água é simplesmente sensacional, e Sally, assim como Frances em “Três Anúncios”, é o coração e alma do novo conto de fadas de Guillermo del Toro, e assim como eu queria que o filme ganhasse o prêmio principal, queria muito que a Sally ganhasse.

(I don't know if it's because Hawkins' role as Elisa in The Shape of Water didn't have any lines and there was only sign language, but I (I) sympathized a lot more with Sally than with Frances. By the fact of the character being mute, Hawkins leaves the entire job to her facial expressions. She can deliver any possible expression in this movie: happiness, sadness, anger, curiosity, frustration, indignation, torment, compassion, fear, courage, etc., all without saying ONE. SINGLE. WORD. I'll make something very clear here: Sally deserved an Oscar since Mike Leigh's “Happy-Go-Lucky”, by interpreting the super optimistic Poppy. She got nominated because of Blue Jasmine, which I didn't see yet, for Best Supporting Actress, so it isn't the first time she is recognized by the Academy. She also deserved at least a nomination because of the independent film “Maudie”, but it didn't work out that way. I fell in love with Elisa, I worried and cared about her during the 2-hour running time, something that, unfortunately, did not happen with Mildred Hayes, protagonist of “Three Billboards...”. Here's the thing: if Frances wins, I won't be surprised, because, as said above, she simply rocks, but if Sally wins, it will be me giving a prize to Guillermo del Toro all over again (LOL)... The Shape of Water is simply spellbinding, and Sally, just like Frances in “Three Billboards”, is the heart and soul of Guillermo del Toro's new fairy tale, and just like I wish the film could win the main award, I wish Sally could win Best Actress.)

QUEM VAI E MERECE GANHAR: SAM ROCKWELL, POR “TRÊS ANÚNCIOS PARA UM CRIME”

(WHO WILL AND DESERVES TO WIN: SAM ROCKWELL, FROM “THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI”)

Assim como McDormand, Rockwell entrega uma das melhores atuações de sua carreira desde “À Espera de Um Milagre”, de 1999, e “O Verão da Minha Vida”, de 2013. O policial Dixon é corrupto, violento, não leva desaforo pra casa, e tem uma boca bem suja. (Risos) Graças ao roteiro de Martin McDonagh, Rockwell interpreta o personagem com maestria e faz uma dupla improvável e imprevisível com McDormand em “Três Anúncios...”. Ele, assim como McDormand, levou todos os prêmios imagináveis por sua atuação (Globo de Ouro, BAFTA, SAG, Critics' Choice, etc.), e é bem provável que em sua primeira indicação, e merecidíssima, Rockwell leve o seu primeiro Oscar para casa.

(Just like McDormand, Rockwell delivers one of his best performances since The Green Mile and The Way Way Back. Officer Dixon is corrupt, violent, does not take any crap from anybody, and he has a real potty mouth. (LOL) Thanks to Martin McDonagh's script, Rockwell plays the character in a spectacular way and makes an unlikely and unpredictable duo with McDormand in “Three Billboards...”. He, just like McDormand, won every possible award for his performance (Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG, Critics' Choice, etc.), and it is very likely that in his first, really well-deserved nomination, Rockwell takes his first Oscar home.)

7 – MELHOR ATRIZ COADJUVANTE (BEST ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE)

QUEM VAI E MERECE GANHAR: ALLISON JANNEY, POR “EU, TONYA”

(WHO WILL AND DESERVES TO WIN: ALLISON JANNEY, FROM “I, TONYA”)

Eu, Tonya é um filme com um roteiro inteligente, uma trilha sonora embalada em clássicos, uma edição muito bem feita, e atuações dignas de prêmios. Margot Robbie arrasa como a patinadora Tonya Harding, mas quem realmente fica com o holofote é Allison Janney, que interpreta a mãe de Tonya, LaVona Golden. Ela, assim como o policial Dixon de “Três Anúncios...”, é bem boca suja, e força sua filha de um pouco mais de 4 anos a começar a patinar o mais cedo possível, assim como a castigaria se houvesse um passo errado. É tipo o pai dos Jackson 5, mas na versão feminina. (Risos) As partes mais engraçadas com Janney ficam por conta das entrevistas no presente, nas quais ela sempre fica com um passarinho no ombro, e isso traz mais um aspecto cômico para o filme. Graças ao roteiro de Steven Rogers, Janney, conhecida pela série de comédia Mom, entrega uma de suas melhores performances aqui, e por isso, ela merece o prêmio.

(I, Tonya is a film with a clever script, a nostalgic soundtrack, very good editing, and award-worthy performances. Margot Robbie nails it as skater Tonya Harding, but who really gets the spotlight is Allison Janney, who plays Tonya's mother, LaVona Golden. She, just like Officer Dixon in “Three Billboards...”, is a real potty mouth, and she forces her 4-year-old daughter to start skating as soon as possible, punishing her if there was a wrong step. She's like the Jackson 5's father, but a female version of him. (LOL) The funniest parts with Janney are the present interview scenes, where she has a little bird on her shoulder, which brings another funny aspect in the film. Thanks to Steven Rogers' script, Janney, known for the comedy series Mom, delivers one of her best performances here, and for that, she deserves the award.)

2 – MELHOR DIREÇÃO (BEST DIRECTOR)

QUEM VAI E MERECE GANHAR: GUILLERMO DEL TORO, POR “A FORMA DA ÁGUA”

(WHO WILL AND DESERVES TO WIN: GUILLERMO DEL TORO, FROM “THE SHAPE OF WATER”)

Como eu disse acima, ele é um dos meus diretores favoritos, e eu nunca vi um filme ruim dele. Cronos, A Espinha do Diabo, O Labirinto do Fauno, os filmes do Hellboy, A Colina Escarlate... Gosto de todos! Mas esse “A Forma da Água” é o filme mais merecedor do prêmio de Melhor Direção para del Toro. Ele combina a luz, as sombras, a música e as cores de uma maneira magnífica. Além de bolar um roteiro fantástico com Vanessa Taylor, del Toro vira um mestre na direção, e se eu fosse o responsável de ler o envelope de quem iria ganhar o prêmio e o nome dele estivesse lá ia ser tipo: “GUILLERMO DEL TORO!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAA” Eu ia chorar e pular de alegria, e quando ele subisse no palco, eu ia dar um super abraço nele! É, nesse ponto que eu chegaria pra entregar um prêmio pro Guillermo del Toro. (Risos) Pela cerimônia celebrar ainda mais a diversidade depois da polêmica #OscarsSoWhite, seria mais do que justo o prêmio ir para del Toro.

(As said above, he's one of my favorite directors, and I've never seen a bad movie he has made. Cronos, The Devil's Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth, the Hellboy movies, Crimson Peak... I like them all! But “The Shape of Water” is the one which he most deserves the award. He can combine light, shadow, music and color in a magnificent way. Besides coming up with a fantastic script along with Vanessa Taylor, del Toro becomes a master at directing, and if I was told to read the Best Director envelope and if his name was there, I'd be like: “GUILLERMO DEL TORO!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAA” I'd cry and jump of happiness, and when he gets up on the stage, I would give him a super hug!!! Yeah, I would come to that point to give an award to Guillermo del Toro. (LOL) As the ceremony also celebrates diversity even more after the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, it would be more than fair for them to award del Toro.)

3 – MELHOR FILME DE ANIMAÇÃO (BEST ANIMATED FEATURE)

QUEM VAI E MERECE GANHAR: VIVA: A VIDA É UMA FESTA

(WHO WILL AND DESERVES TO WIN: COCO)

A categoria de animação desse ano está bem menos competitiva do que os anos anteriores. Há 5 candidatos e apenas 3 (Viva; Com Amor, Van Gogh; e The Breadwinner) são considerados bons. O Poderoso Chefinho e O Touro Ferdinando poderiam ser substituídos facilmente pelo extremamente superior Lego Batman: O Filme, o divertido Capitão Cueca e os independentes Psiconautas, As Crianças Esquecidas; The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales; e Mary and The Witch's Flower, todos considerados muito bons pela crítica e audiência. Mesmo que o visualmente deslumbrante Com Amor, Van Gogh tenha um aspecto visual tremendamente fantástico, o primeiro musical da Pixar possui uma narrativa envolvente e impacto emocional, colocando como plano de fundo músicas bilíngues brilhantes escritas pela equipe de Frozen. Eu amei muito, mas muito mesmo Van Gogh, mas eu ainda daria o prêmio para Viva: A Vida é uma Festa, porque, assim como a cinebiografia do pintor mais criativo da história, é uma experiência inesquecível.

(The Best Animated Feature category this year is very less competitive than the previous years. There are 5 nominees and only 3 (Coco, Loving Vincent and The Breadwinner) are considered to be good. The Boss Baby and Ferdinand could easily be replaced by the extremely superior The Lego Batman Movie, the fun Captain Underpants, and the independent films Birdboy: The Forgotten Children; The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales and Mary and the Witch's Flower, all considered to be very good by critics and audience. Even with the delightfully wonderful visuals of Loving Vincent, Pixar's first musical has a well-written narrative and emotional impact, with bilingual songs as a background, composed by the same team as Frozen. I really, really loved Loving Vincent, but I would still give the award to Coco, because, as with the biopic of the most creative painter in history, it's an unforgettable experience.)

Oi, galera! Bom, o Oscar está a menos de um mês de distância, e eu estou muito animado para a maior cerimônia que comemora o melhor do cinema. Todos nós temos nossas apostas, e os filmes que nós gostamos. Os filmes que gostamos podem ou não ganhar os prêmios que desejamos que eles ganhem, mas achamos que algumas categorias são merecidas. Então, vou colocar aqui as minhas apostas para algumas categorias do Oscar 2018, e em alguns casos, o que eu desejaria que ganhasse em algumas categorias. Vou citar aqui categorias que eu acho que são principais (Melhor Filme, Direção, Ator, Atriz, Ator Coadjuvante, Atriz Coadjuvante, Roteiros Adaptado e Original e Melhor Filme de Animação). Então vamos começar!

(Hey guys! Well, there's less than a month to the Oscars, and I am very excited for the biggest ceremony which celebrates the best in the movie industry. We all have our bets, and the films that we love. The films we love may or may not win the awards we expect them to win, but in some categories, the winners deserve it. So, I'll put here my bets to some of the categories of the 2018 Oscars, and in some cases, in my opinion, what I wish it wins, but it might not do so. I'll say my bets in the categories I think are the main ones (Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Adapted and Original Screenplays, and Best Animated Feature). So let's begin!)

1 – MELHOR FILME (BEST PICTURE)

QUEM IRÁ GANHAR: TRÊS ANÚNCIOS PARA UM CRIME

(WHO WILL WIN: THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI)

Esse foi um dos primeiros filmes pré-Oscar que eu vi, e eu já tinha uma certa expectativa para vê-lo. Esperava que fosse como um filme dos Irmãos Coen, tanto que tem a fantástica Frances McDormand no elenco, junto com um elenco coadjuvante incrível (Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Peter Dinklage e Lucas Hedges). É um filme de vingança sem ser Tarantinesco. Tem a dose certa de sangue, humor negro e violência. Os diálogos e cenas são impecáveis. Esse filme, na minha opinião, só tem uma falha, o final é muito ambíguo, foi o final com mais ambiguidade que eu vi desde The Lobster, de 2015. Desde o Globo de Ouro, onde o filme faturou o prêmio de Melhor Filme de Drama, tive mais confiança que a aclamada obra de Martin McDonagh irá ganhar o prêmio de Melhor Filme nos Oscars. - Nota: 9,5 de 10.

(This was one of the first pre-Oscar films I've seen, and I've had a certain expectation for it. I hoped it was more like a Coen Brothers movie, not because it just had the amazing Frances McDormand in the cast, along with an incredible supporting cast (Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Peter Dinklage and Lucas Hedges). It's a not Tarantinesque revenge movie. It has the right amount of gore, dark humor and violence. The dialogues and scenes are flawless. However, this film has only one flaw, in my opinion: the ending is way too ambiguous, it was the most ambiguous ending since The Lobster, from 2015. Since the Golden Globes, where it won the Best Picture – Drama award, I was more trustworthy that Martin McDonagh's acclaimed work will win the Best Picture Award in this year's Oscars. 9,5 out of 10.)

QUEM EU QUERIA QUE GANHASSE: A FORMA DA ÁGUA

(WHO I WISH IT COULD WIN: THE SHAPE OF WATER)

Só pra constar, Guillermo del Toro é um dos meus diretores favoritos. E com sua nova obra, ele fez uma carta de amor ao cinema e à diversidade, como se fosse uma mistura do que La La Land e Moonlight fizeram em suas respectivas cartas de amor. Um conto de fadas com protagonistas, no ponto de vista da sociedade da época retratada no filme, imperfeitos, del Toro dá luz e voz a essas minorias, tanto que quase todos os protagonistas do filme foram indicados ao Oscar por interpretar brilhantemente essa parte pequena da sociedade, que vem ganhando mais voz à medida que o tempo passa. Fico bem feliz que finalmente del Toro vem ganhando o reconhecimento que ele tanto merece desde O Labirinto do Fauno, tanto que ele ganhou o cobiçado Leão de Ouro, em Veneza, por sua nova obra. Um dos melhores filmes que vi no cinema nesses últimos tempos, e um dos melhores filmes de todos os tempos pra mim (é, chegamos a esse ponto), “A Forma da Água” é o filme que o Oscar precisa premiar em tempos turbulentos como esses. Nota: 10 de 10.

(Just for starters, Guillermo del Toro is one of my favorite directors. And with his new work, he made a love letter to cinema and diversity, like it was a mix between La La Land and Moonlight's respective love letters. A fairy tale with, in the point of view of the society in the time portrayed in the film, imperfect main characters, del Toro focuses and gives light and voice to these minorities, and almost all the main actors in the film got nominated for an Oscar for brilliantly portraying this small part of society, which wins more amounts of voice as time goes by. I am really happy that finally del Toro is getting the recognition he deserves since Pan's Labyrinth, as he won the Golden Lion in Venice because of his new work. One of the best movies I've seen on the big screen in these times, and one of the best films of all time for me (yeah, really), “The Shape of Water” is the film the Oscars need to award in troubled times like these. 10 out of 10.)

Elisa Esposito (Hawkins) é uma faxineira muda que trabalha em um laboratório ultrassecreto, em pleno cenário de Guerra Fria, onde ela se apaixona por uma criatura aquática (Jones) vinda da América do Sul, e com a ajuda de sua colega de trabalho Zelda (Spencer) e seu vizinho Giles (Jenkins), Elisa planeja retirá-la das mãos do sádico Strickland (Shannon).

Só pra começar, eu estive esperando por esse filme por um bom tempo. Tipo, bastante tempo. Eu acompanhei todos os festivais pelos quais ele passou e todas as críticas, tanto boas quanto ruins, que o filme recebeu. Depois do lançamento ser adiado de 11 de janeiro para 1 de fevereiro, finalmente consegui ter acesso ao resultado final do filme. E devo dizer que Guillermo del Toro fez mais uma obra-prima em seu trabalho mais recente. O roteiro comandado por del Toro e Vanessa Taylor combinado com a fotografia, os sets, a trilha sonora, as atuações de seu grande elenco e os diferentes tons de verde presentes no filme dão origem ao melhor filme de 2017 e, na minha opinião, o melhor trabalho do diretor desde o espetacular “O Labirinto do Fauno”, de 2006. É simplesmente fantástico o que o diretor mexicano consegue fazer aqui. Ele traz um filme que mescla uma variedade de gêneros, entre eles, espionagem, romance, ficção-científica, drama, alguns toques de comédia e até musical, indo muito além do que uma história de amor entre espécies diferentes. Sally Hawkins é maravilhosa em sua atuação como Elisa, entregando várias emoções com somente expressões faciais, sem nenhum tipo de fala, o que empurra ela contra Frances McDormand na batalha pelo Oscar de Melhor Atriz. Doug Jones, como sempre, fazendo parcerias com del Toro em papéis que requerem maquiagens pesadas, está fantástico como o Homem Anfíbio, em uma atuação que podia ter sido indicada ao Oscar. Os coadjuvantes indicados ao Oscar pelo filme, Richard Jenkins e Octavia Spencer, possuem atuações maravilhosas como personagens que fazem parte de minorias que sofreram preconceito na época retratada (e ainda sofrem). Michael Shannon é o novo Capitão Vidal, ameaçador e sádico, sendo um ótimo vilão. Nos aspectos visual e técnico, o filme é impecável. A fotografia é linda, a premiada trilha sonora de Alexandre Desplat é mágica, e o design de produção é realista e muito bem feito. E sinto-me bem seguro ao dizer que não há nenhum momento em suas 2 horas e 3 minutos de duração no qual o filme se sente lento ou arrastado no ritmo, pelo contrário, ao sentar na poltrona, o espectador fica grudado na tela até a projeção, que passa como um suspiro, acabar. E o sentimento é simplesmente lindo, tão lindo que terminei o filme aplaudindo com um grande sorriso estampado no rosto, depois de uma experiência gratificante de verdadeiro cinema.

Sendo um filme adulto, violento, sensual e feito para ser visto no cinema, o indicado a 13 Oscars (incluindo Melhor Filme e Melhor Diretor – Guillermo del Toro) “A Forma da Água” é uma carta de amor de Guillermo del Toro ao cinema, aos monstros, à diversidade, e ao amor, que certamente irá deixar todo espectador sem fôlego.

Amei!!! Totalmente recomendo esse filme para os fãs do trabalho do diretor!! Nota: 10 de 10!!

Elisa Esposito (Hawkins) is a mute cleaner who works in an ultra-secret lab, during the Cold War, where she falls in love with an aquatic creature (Jones) from South America, and with the help of her co-worker Zelda (Spencer) and neighbor Giles (Jenkins), Elisa plans to get the creature away from the hands of the sadistic Strickland (Shannon).

Just for starters, I've been waiting for this movie for a very long time. Like, a very long time. I accompanied every festival it was shown, and every review, good or bad, it has received. After the Brazilian release date got delayed from January 11 to February 1, I finally could watch the final results of the film. And I must say Guillermo del Toro made another masterpiece in his most recent work. The script led by del Toro and Vanessa Taylor combined with the cinematography, the sets, the original score, the performances by its wonderful cast and the different shades of green present in the film give birth to the best movie of 2017 and, in my opinion, Guillermo del Toro's best work since the spectacular Pan's Labyrinth, from 2006. It is simply fantastic what the Mexican director can achieve here. He brings a film that mixes a lot of genres, including espionage, romance, science fiction, drama, some touches of comedy, and even musicals, going way beyond a love story between different species. Sally Hawkins is marvelous in her performance as Elisa, delivering several emotions with only facial expressions, which pushes her against Frances McDormand in the battle for the Oscar for Best Actress. Doug Jones, as always, doing partnerships with del Toro in roles that require heavy make-up, is fantastical as the Amphibian Man, in a performance which could have been Oscar-nominated. The Oscar-nominated supporting actors Richard Jenkins and Octavia Spencer have wonderful performances as people who are part of minority groups who suffered a lot of prejudice in the time the movie is set (and these groups still do). Michael Shannon is the new Captain Vidal, threatening and sadistic, a really great villain. In visual and technical aspects, the film is flawless. The cinematography is beautiful, the award-winning original score by Alexandre Desplat is magical, and the production design is realistic and very well made. And I feel very safe to say that there isn't one moment in the 2 hours and 3 minutes in this film that it feels slow and dragged in rythym, it's the complete opposite, when the spectators sit in their seats, their attention is fully concentrated in the film until it, which goes quicker than a sigh, ends. And it feels very lovely. The feeling is so beautiful I finished it applauding with a very big smile on my face, after a very gratifying experience of true cinema.

Being an adult, violent, sensual, and made-for-the-big-screen film, the 13 Oscar-nominated (including Best Picture and Director – Guillermo del Toro) “The Shape of Water” is del Toro's love letter to movies, monsters, diversity, and love, which will certainly leave all the people who watch it wonderstruck.

I loved this film so much! I totally recommend it to the fans of the director's work!! I give it a 10 out of 10!
