cinéfilos! Voltei de viagem, e venho aqui falar para vocês sobre
uma das melhores séries disponíveis na Netflix. Sendo um derivado
da sensacional série “Caçadores de Trolls”, criada por
Guillermo del Toro, a série em questão não é apenas uma mistura
homogênea de gêneros, mas também conta uma história que realmente
faz você pensar no mundo como ele é hoje. Então, sem mais
delongas, vamos falar sobre “Os 3 Lá Embaixo: Contos da Arcadia”.

I'm back, and I come here to talk about one of the best TV shows
available on Netflix. A spin-off of the sensational series
“Trollhunters”, created by Guillermo del Toro, the series I'm
gonna talk about isn't just a uniform mix of genres, but it also
tells a story that really makes you think about the world as it is
today. So, without further ado, let's talk about “3Below: Tales of
Arcadia”. Let's go!)
O derivado se concentra
em dois personagens apresentados na última temporada de “Caçadores
de Trolls”, Aja (voz original de Tatiana Maslany) e Krel (voz
original de Diego Luna), que, na verdade, são herdeiros do trono de
um planeta distante chamado Akiridion-5. O planeta-natal deles sofre
um golpe do nefasto General Morando (voz original de Alon Aboutboul),
e eles, junto com Varvatos Vex (voz original de Nick Offerman) e uma
inteligência artificial presente na nave deles (voz original de
Glenn Close), são forçados a ir para a Terra, onde terão que se
adaptar aos modos de vida terrestres para esconderem suas verdadeiras
identidades.
(The spin-off focuses
on two characters introduced in the final season of “Trollhunters”,
Aja (voiced by Tatiana Maslany) and Krel (voiced by Diego Luna), who,
actually, are king and queen in waiting for the throne in a distant
planet called Akiridion-5. Their home planet suffers a coup from the
nefarious General Morando (voiced by Alon Aboutboul), and they, along
with Varvatos Vex (voiced by Nick Offerman) and an artificial
intelligence attached to their ship (voiced by Glenn Close), are
forced to go to Earth, where they'll have to adapt themselves into
Earth's ways of life in order to preserve their true identities.)
Como a maioria dos meus
leitores certamente sabe, eu AMO tudo que o Guillermo del Toro faz.
Todo filme, série, animação, livro, tudo! E “Caçadores de
Trolls”, com suas 3 épicas temporadas, é uma das minhas séries
originais da Netflix favoritas. Quando eu soube que o del Toro tinha
planejado uma trilogia de animações conectadas pela cidade de
Arcadia Oaks, eu surtei, porque, baseado nos títulos e nas pequenas
sinopses liberadas, haviam muitas possibilidades, e eu fiquei muito
animado pra explorar esse vasto universo. A história-base de “Os 3
Lá Embaixo” não é 100% original, porque convenhamos, a história
de “alienígenas forçados a viverem na Terra depois de algo
trágico acontecer no planeta-natal deles” já foi usada, e muito.
Mas o diferencial que a série traz pra essa história é o que faz
dela original. A série é inserida de forma brilhante no mesmo
universo de “Caçadores de Trolls”, fazendo uso de alguns de seus
personagens, e tem o mesmo passo e senso de humor característico da
série original. Assim como os trolls, os akiridianos possuem uma
mitologia, e, mesmo que familiar, é bem interessante notar as
semelhanças e diferenças entre essas duas raças. Tendo uma veia de
ficção-científica, mas nunca perdendo a fantasia que fez de
“Caçadores de Trolls” uma série tão especial, “Os 3 Lá
Embaixo” possui bem mais ação, fazendo um ótimo uso de efeitos
especiais para que essas cenas aconteçam, mas falaremos disso mais
tarde. “Os 3 Lá Embaixo”, na minha opinião, não é melhor do
que “Caçadores de Trolls”, mas um aspecto no enredo da série
faz com que, pelo menos, ela se equipare à série que a originou: a
história da série nada mais é do que uma alegoria brilhante à
imigração e à xenofobia, e não há ninguém melhor do que um dos
mestres da fantasia atual, Guillermo del Toro (um imigrante), para
contar essa história, de forma que conscientize seus espectadores,
tanto crianças quanto adultos, sobre um assunto que se faz muito
presente, em especial nos EUA, país de origem da série.
Resumindo, “Os 3 Lá
Embaixo” pode não ser melhor do que a série que a originou, mas
personagens bem escritos, um ótimo senso de humor e uma alegoria
brilhante são o suficiente para que a série mereça a sua atenção.
(As most of my readers
already know, I LOVE everything Guillermo del Toro does. Every movie,
TV show, animation, novel, everything! And “Trollhunters”, with
its 3 epic seasons, is one of my favorite Netflix original shows.
When I learned that del Toro had planned a trilogy of animated series
connected by the city of Arcadia Oaks, I freaked out, because, by the
titles and plot summaries released at the time, there were many
possibilities, and I wanted to explore this vast universe so badly.
The basis story for “3Below” isn't 100% original, because, let's
agree on something, the story of “aliens forced to live on Earth
after something tragic happens to their home planet” has already
been used, a lot of times. But the thoughtful spin that it gives to
that story is what makes “3Below” original. It is inserted
brilliantly into the “Trollhunters” universe, using some of its
characters to tell a story, possessing the same pacing and sense of
humor that made the original series good. Just like the trolls, the
akiridians also have their mythology, and, although it's familiar,
it's very interesting to learn the similarities and differences
between the two races. Having a sci-fi feel to it, and not losing the
fantasy that made “Trollhunters” so special in the process,
“3Below” has a lot more action, due to a great use of special
effects in order to make such scenes, but we'll discuss that later.
“3Below”, in my opinion, is not better than “Trollhunters”,
but one aspect in its plot makes that, at least, it stays on the same
level as the show that originated it: its story is nothing more than
a brilliant allegory to immigration and xenophobia, and there is no
one better than one of the masters of fantasy today, Guillermo del
Toro (an immigrant), to tell this story, in a way that makes the
viewers, both small and big, think about a subject that is very
present, especially in the US, the show's country of origin.
In a nutshell, “3Below”
may not be better than the series that originated it, but
well-written characters, a great sense of humor and a brilliant
allegory are enough for the show to deserve your attention.)
Além de ter um roteiro
bem escrito, a série também possui um tremendo elenco de
personagens. Já conhecíamos Aja e Krel na última temporada de
“Caçadores de Trolls”, mas com essa série, a história deles é
aprofundada, tanto na história de fundo quanto na personalidade
deles. Eu amei a Aja. Ela é, de longe, uma das melhores personagens
femininas que o Guillermo del Toro criou, e todo mundo sabe que ele é
muito bom nisso (é só dar uma olhada na Ofélia, de “O Labirinto
do Fauno” e na Elisa, de “A Forma da Água”). Ela é
inteligente, forte, e tem espírito de guerreira, bem parecido com a
Clara de “Caçadores de Trolls”, e tudo isso graças à tremenda
performance da Tatiana Maslany, de “Orphan Black”. O Krel,
interpretado pelo Diego Luna, é muito bem desenvolvido aqui. A
evolução da relação dele com a Terra é algo muito interessante
de se ver. Mas, mesmo que a série seja, principalmente, sobre esses
dois, quem rouba a cena é Nick Offerman como Varvatos Vex, que
completa o trio-título. Ele é, disparado, o melhor personagem da
série. Ele é bem primitivo, só pensa em matar, e é um mestre dos
monólogos épicos (embora ele não tenha completado nenhum durante a
série). Ele tem uma personalidade bem parecida com a de Johnny
Lawrence, em “Cobra Kai”, em um aspecto onde ele precisa se
adaptar aos modos de vida atuais, e ver o personagem lidando com
esses modos de vida é um verdadeiro deleite. Outra personagem que se
destaca aqui é a inteligência artificial da nave do trio,
interpretada pela Glenn Close. Ela é muito bem escrita; o
desenvolvimento dela, mesmo para uma inteligência artificial, é
impressionante, e a performance da Glenn Close é sensacional. Vários
personagens de “Caçadores de Trolls” reprisam seus papéis aqui,
e alguns têm mais desenvolvimento do que outros, em especial Steve e
Eli (ou os Caça-Monstroz), que colaboram (e muito) para que a
história não perca o rumo. Os personagens General Morando e Coronel
Kubritz são claramente inspirados no Donald Trump, não há dúvida
sobre isso, e por causa disso, eles sofrem de uma unidimensionalidade
em suas personalidades. Além dos personagens mencionados, há
performances memoráveis de Tom Kenny, Cheryl Hines, Hayley Atwell,
Danny Trejo e Nick Frost em papéis coadjuvantes.
(Besides having a good
story to tell, the show also has a tremendous cast of characters. We
already knew Aja and Krel from the final season of “Trollhunters”,
but with this show, their story is taken on a deeper level, both on
their backstories and personalities. I fell in love with Aja. She is,
by far, one of the best female characters Guillermo del Toro ever
created, and everybody knows he's good at that (just take a look at
Ofelia from “Pan's Labyrinth” and Elisa from “The Shape of
Water”). She's clever, strong, and has the spirit of a warrior,
much alike Claire from “Trollhunters”, all thanks to the superb
performance by Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany. Krel, portrayed by
Diego Luna, is really well-developed here. The evolution in his
relationship with Earth is something really interesting to behold.
But even if the show is, mainly, about these two characters, the
scene-stealer here is Nick Offerman as Varvatos Vex, who completes
the title trio. He is, by far, the greatest character in the series.
He's really primitive, only thinks about killing people, and is a
master on giving epic monologues (even though he didn't finish one
throughout the series). He has a personality similar to Johnny
Lawrence's on “Cobra Kai”, in the aspect where he has to adapt
into modern ways of life, and seeing the character deal with these
ways of life is a true delight. Another standout character here is
the artificial intelligence in the trio's ship, portrayed by Glenn
Close. She is well-written; her development, even for an AI, is
impressive, and Glenn Close's performance is sensational. Several
characters from “Trollhunters” reprise their roles here, and some
get more development than others, especially Steve and Eli (or the
Creepslayerz), who are key characters for the story not to lose its
course. The characters of General Morando and Colonel Kubritz are
clearly inspired on Donald Trump, there's no doubt about it, and
because of that, they suffer of an one-dimensional personality.
Besides the already mentioned characters, there are memorable
performances by Tom Kenny, Cheryl Hines, Hayley Atwell, Danny Trejo
and Nick Frost in supporting roles.)
Ao falar dos aspectos
técnicos, é bom manter em mente que a série é uma produção da
DreamWorks, então já se espera que a animação seja boa. E
realmente é. Como disse anteriormente, a série é cheia de cenas de
ação, e houve um ótimo uso nos efeitos especiais para fazer essas
cenas funcionarem. O design dos akiridianos é muito bem feito,
apesar que a única coisa que eu não gostei 100% foi o design da Aja
e do Krel como alienígenas. Se não fosse pelos quatro braços que
cada um tem, não veria diferença entre alienígenas e androides. Se
eles tivessem usado uma cor mais característica dos alienígenas,
como, por exemplo, o verde, o design deles como alienígenas ficaria
mais crível. Tirando isso, tudo aqui está dentro dos padrões
DreamWorks de excelência em animação. E prestem atenção no
finalzinho do último episódio da segunda temporada (que é a
temporada final), porque ela dá uma boa (e muito promissora) ideia
de onde a série final da trilogia Contos da Arcadia, intitulada
Wizards (ou Magos), vai ir, e minha expectativa está
significativamente alta!
(When talking about the
technical aspects, it's good to keep in mind that the show is a
DreamWorks production, so we already hope for the animation to be
good. And it really is. As I previously said, it is filled with
action scenes, and there's been a great use of special effects in
order to make these scenes work. The design of the akiridians is
really well done, although the only thing I didn't like 100% about it
was Aja and Krel's alien design. If it weren't for the four arms that
each of them have, I wouldn't see a difference between aliens and
androids. If they had used a color more associated to aliens, like,
for example, green, their design as aliens would've been more
believable. Apart from that, everything here is inside the DreamWorks
standards of excellence in animation. And pay attention to the very
end of the last episode in the second (and final) season, because it
gives a good (and really promising) idea to where the final series in
the Tales of Arcadia trilogy, titled Wizards, will go, and my
expectations are significantly high for it!)
Resumindo, “Os 3 Lá
Embaixo: Contos da Arcadia”, embora inferior à “Caçadores de
Trolls”, é envolvente, reflexivo e emocionante. Com uma alegoria
brilhante como enredo principal, a série é recheada de personagens
muito bem escritos e desenvolvidos, e deixa um tremendo suspense para
o final épico da trilogia Contos da Arcadia. Que venha Wizards!

“3Below: Tales of Arcadia”, although inferior to “Trollhunters”,
is involving, thought-provoking and thrilling. With a brilliant
allegory as a main plot point, the show is filled with well-written
and well-developed characters, and leaves one hell of a cliffhanger
to the epic conclusion of the Tales of Arcadia trilogy. Can't wait
for Wizards!
