cinéfilos!! Demorei, mas voltei!! E venho aqui com a resenha de uma
série de TV que terminei recentemente. É uma jornada de
amadurecimento de um garoto morador dos subúrbios dos EUA. Foi
altamente aclamada quando foi exibida, e ainda é lembrada como um
dos maiores fenômenos da TV americana. Criada por Carol Black e Neal
Marlens, me acompanhem na resenha da inesquecível série “Anos
Incríveis” (The Wonder Years, no original). Vamos lá!
(What's up, film
buffs!! I took a bit longer than expected, but I'm back! And I come
here with the review of a TV show I recently finished. It's a coming
of age journey of a boy who lives in the suburbs of the US. It was
highly acclaimed when it was shown on TV, and it is still remembered
as one of the biggest phenomenons on American television. Created by
Carol Black and Neal Marlens, follow me in the review of the
unforgettable TV show “The Wonder Years”. Let's go!)
Caso vocês não
saibam, “Anos Incríveis” foi exibida entre 1988 e 1993, se
ambienta entre 1968 e 1973, e conta a história de Kevin Arnold (Fred
Savage), que também é o narrador da série, em sua versão mais
velha (Daniel Stern, o Marv de “Esqueceram de Mim”), um menino
que vive uma vida cotidiana, com seus amigos Paul Pfeiffer (Josh
Saviano) e Winnie Cooper (Danica McKellar), e sua família: o pai,
Jack (Dan Lauria), a mãe, Norma (Alley Mills), o irmão do meio,
Wayne (Jason Hervey) e a irmã mais velha, Karen (Olivia d'Abo), mas
ao mesmo tempo, vive momentos extraordinários que revolucionam a
história da humanidade, como o surgimento dos Beatles nos EUA, a
Guerra do Vietnã, e o pouso de Neil Armstrong na Lua.
(In case you guys don't
know, “The Wonder Years” was shown between 1988 and 1993, is set
between 1968 and 1973, and tells the story of Kevin Arnold (Fred
Savage), who is also the narrator of the show, in his older version
(Daniel Stern, Marv from “Home Alone”), a kid who lives a normal
life, with his friends Paul Pfeiffer (Josh Saviano) and Winnie Cooper
(Danica McKellar), and his family: father, Jack (Dan Lauria), mother,
Norma (Alley Mills), middle brother, Wayne (Jason Hervey) and older
sister, Karen (Olivia d'Abo), but at the same time, he lives through
extraordinary moments that change history, like the Beatles rising in
the US, the Vietnam War and Neil Armstrong's landing on the Moon.)
Essa série, como
várias das boas ideias que já apareceram na minha cabeça, foi
recomendada pra mim por meio do meu pai, e confesso que estava
duvidoso à começar a assisti-la, mas agora reconheço que eu estava
gravemente enganado. “Anos Incríveis” é, de fato, incrível. A
ambientação é perfeita, os atores, tanto mirins quanto adultos,
são fantásticos, o enredo nos surpreende a cada temporada, nos
dando vários socos nos sentimentos quando cada temporada acaba.
Claro, essencialmente, “Anos Incríveis” é uma comédia, mas nem
toda comédia é desprovida de um drama aqui e outro ali. Tem
momentos que “Anos Incríveis” é muito, muito triste. Cheguei a
chorar em alguns episódios e me sentir mal pelos personagens, só
pra vocês entenderem o quão poderoso é o sentimentalismo da série.
Além de sentimental, “Anos Incríveis” consegue ser bem
realista. Tão realista que parece que a gente está lá, vivendo
esse momento com o Kevin, como se o espectador fosse uma parte da
vida extraordinária do protagonista, e isso é uma ideia muito
genial.
(This show, as many of
the great ideas that popped into my head, was recommended to me by my
father, and I confess I was doubtful into starting it, but now I
recognize I was severely mistaken. “The Wonder Years” is, indeed,
wonderful. The setting is perfect, the actors, young and adult, are
fantastic, the plot suprises us each season, giving us several
gut-punches right in the feelings at each season finale. Of course,
essentially, “The Wonder Years” is a comedy, but not every comedy
goes without some drama here and there. There are moments that “The
Wonder Years” is really, really sad. I even cried in some episodes
and felt bad for the characters, just so you can understand how
powerful the sentimentalism of the series is. Besides sentimental,
“The Wonder Years” is also incredibly realistic. So realistic
that it seems that we're there, living that moment with Kevin, as if
the spectator is a part of that lead character's extraordinary life,
and that's pretty genius.)
O aspecto que mais me
impressionou em Anos Incríveis foi o fato do número de temporadas
ser o mesmo número de anos em que essa série é ambientada, como se
cada temporada fosse um ano da vida do Kevin. E nós vemos muita
coisa acontecer nesses 6 anos, entre elas o primeiro beijo, ele
tirando a carteira de motorista, fazendo o vestibular, indo para
bailes da escola, os trabalhos de meio-período que ele tinha que
fazer pra ganhar um dinheirinho, e por aí vai. E meus parabéns vão
para o Fred Savage, que faz todos esses eventos parecerem reais com
maestria em sua atuação como o protagonista Kevin Arnold. Os pais,
interpretados por Dan Lauria e Alley Mills, são de longe os melhores
personagens da série. Eles são sábios, às vezes, são rigorosos,
e sempre dão conselhos cheios de sabedoria e honestidade para os
filhos, pois acima de tudo, eles se importam com eles, e chega a doer
o coração quando os filhos discordam com as afirmações ou
perguntas dos pais. E mesmo com a série sendo sobre as crianças,
nós não podemos evitar um sentimento de pena pelos pais. E esse
sentimento é o que faz de “Anos Incríveis” uma das séries mais
emocionalmente efetivas que eu já vi.
(The aspect that most
impressed me about The Wonder Years was the fact of the number of
seasons is the same number of years in which this show is set, as if
each season is one year of Kevin's life. And we see a lot of things
happen in these 6 years, amongst them his first kiss, him trying out
his driver's license, doing his SATs, going to school dances and
prom, working half-time to get himself some money, and it goes
further. And I strongly congratulate Fred Savage, that makes all
these moments seem real with gusto in his performance as Kevin Arnold.
The parents, played by Dan Lauria and Alley Mills, are by far the
show's best characters. They are wise, sometimes strict, and always
give wise and honest advice to their children, because above all
things, they care about them, and our feelings are deeply hurt when
the kids disagree with the parents' affirmations or questions. And
even if the show is about the children, we can't help but feel a
little sorry for the parents. And that feeling is what makes “The
Wonder Years” one of the most emotionally effective TV shows I've
ever seen.)
Outros aspectos que a
série se destaca são o uso de flashbacks das primeiras temporadas
nas temporadas mais recentes, e a trilha sonora. Às vezes, os dois
são usados juntos, e tem um flashback em particular que eu quase
explodi de tão fofo que é. Foi usado em uma temporada bem recente,
e no flashback os atores estão novinhos, e tudo ao som de “We've
Got Tonight”, do Bob Seger. Além de Seger, vários outros artistas
famosos da época em que a série é ambientada têm suas músicas
aqui: os Beatles (que inclusive, embalam a música de abertura do
programa), Lesley Gore, John Lennon, Carole King, Van Morrison, Joe
Cocker, Buffalo Springfield, e por aí vai. No aspecto trilha sonora,
Anos Incríveis é sensacional, não há dúvida sobre isso. Agora,
os flashbacks são usados de uma maneira muito efetiva nessas últimas
temporadas para evocar uma espécie de nostalgia pelas temporadas
anteriores, e funciona de verdade, e é pra mim, uma das melhores
coisas sobre a série, que essencialmente, é o Kevin mais adulto com
uma overdose de nostalgia pela sua juventude, e isso é muito legal.
(Other aspects in which
the show stands out are the use of flashbacks of early seasons in
later seasons, and the soundtrack. Sometimes, both are combined, and
there's a particular flashback in which I almost exploded of how
freaking cute it is. It was used in a recent season, and in it, the
actors are really young, and in the background, “We've Got
Tonight”, by Bob Seger, plays. Besides Seger, several other artists
from that time get their songs played here: the Beatles (who wrote
the theme song to the show), Lesley Gore, John Lennon, Carole King,
Van Morrison, Joe Cocker, Buffalo Springfield, and it goes further.
In the soundtrack area, The Wonder Years is phenomenal, there's no
doubt about it. Now, the flashbacks are used in a very effective way
in these final seasons to evoke some kind of nostalgia for the early
seasons, and the way that it really works is one of my favorite
things about the show, which is, essentially, older Kevin having an
overdose of nostalgia for his younger years, and that's really cool.)
Resumindo, “Anos
Incríveis” é uma saga épica de amadurecimento, contando com
estereótipos meticulosamente refinados, uma trilha sonora nostálgica
explosiva, atuações memoráveis de seu elenco, e uma carga
emocional realmente pesada. Pode ser de 30 anos atrás, mas não quer
dizer que não valha a pena o seu tempo. Todo mundo merece, pelo
menos uma vez na vida, ver a vida extraordinária de Kevin Arnold, e
isso é um fato.

(In a nutshell, “The
Wonder Years” is an epic coming of age saga, counting with
meticulously refined stereotypes, an explosive, nostalgic soundtrack,
memorable performances by its cast, and it is loaded with emotional
moments. It may be from 30 years ago, but it doesn't mean that it's
not worth your precious time. Everyone deserves, at least once in a
lifetime, to see Kevin Arnold's extraordinary life, and that is a
fact.
