E aí, galerinha de
cinéfilos!! Aqui quem fala é o João Pedro, e eu venho falar de uma
franquia de filmes que me pegou de surpresa. Eu fui ver com
expectativa zero e acabei me surpreendendo pela qualidade técnica e
narrativa dela. É uma franquia infantil, mas que com certeza, irá
conquistar o coração de vários adultos com seu visual e charme.
Meus amigos, essa provavelmente deve ser a melhor franquia infantil
dos últimos tempos. Vamos falar sobre a franquia “Paddington”,
baseada nos livros de Michael Bond. Vamos lá!
(What's up, film
buffs!! João Pedro here, and I have come to speak about a film
franchise that surprised me. I went to see it with no expectations at
all and I ended up surprised by its technical and narrative quality.
It's a children's franchise, but it will surely conquest the hearts
of several adults with its visuals and charm. My friends, this is
probably the best children's franchise in recent times. Let's talk
about the “Paddington” franchise, based on the books by Michael
Bond. Let's go!!)
Então, o bom da
franquia “Paddington” é que os filmes não possuem uma
continuidade exata, de maneira que não é 100% necessário ver o
primeiro filme para entender o segundo. O necessário é entender a
base: Paddington (interpretado brilhantemente pela voz de Ben
Whishaw) é um urso amante de marmelada que veio do Peru para Londres
à procura de um lar, depois que um desastre ecológico destrói sua
casa. Ele acha conforto com os Browns, uma família de humanos que,
ao meio de muitos conflitos, vai aprendendo a gostar do ursinho. Mas
o melhor é realmente ver os dois filmes na sequência, pois além de
muito bons, há partes importantes, que não fazem parte da base,
para o desenvolvimento do personagem-título.
(So, the good thing
about the “Paddington” franchise is that its movies don't have a
precise sense of continuity, in a way that it's not 100% necessary to
see the first movie to understand the second one. The necessary is to
understand the basis: Paddington (voiced brilliantly by Ben Whishaw)
is a marmalade-loving bear that traveled from Peru to London in the
search for a home, after a natural disaster destroys his own home. He
finds comfort with the Browns, a family of humans which, in the midst
of several conflicts, learns to enjoy the little bear's company. But
the best thing is to really see both movies back-to-back, because,
apart from both being very good movies, there are important parts,
which aren't part of the basis, for the development of the title
character.)
A narrativa do primeiro
filme (conhecido no Brasil como “As Aventuras de Paddington”),
pelo menos, é bem previsível. Você sente que você já viu aquele
enredo em algum lugar. Para as crianças isso passa despercebido, mas
para os cinéfilos, como eu e você, isso é até perceptível. Mas o
que impede o filme de ser completamente derivativo é o modo de se
contar essa história. Em vez de um humano, temos um urso à procura
de um lar. E tanto os Browns como os vizinhos e pessoas que
Paddington conhece o tratam como um ser humano normal, mesmo ele
sendo de uma espécie totalmente diferente. E isso chega a ser muito
engraçado em algumas partes do filme. Antes de assisti-lo, eu só me
senti atraído por ele pelo envolvimento do Peter Capaldi (que foi o
Décimo-Segundo Doutor em Doctor Who), mas depois, vi que tinha muita
coisa para se gostar ali. O elenco de peso, que inclui Hugh
Bonneville (de Downton Abbey), Sally Hawkins (de A Forma da Água),
Julie Walters (de Harry Potter e Mamma Mia), Nicole Kidman, e por aí
vai; os visuais, bem coloridos e vibrantes; o trabalho de câmera,
bem simétrico, o que me fez pensar que esse filme se daria muito bem
se tivesse sido dirigido pelo Wes Anderson; e o senso de humor, que
mantém as crianças entretidas e ao mesmo tempo, esconde algumas
piadinhas para os adultos.
(The narrative of the
first film, at least, is very predictable. You feel like you have
already seen that plot somewhere. To the kids, that goes unnoticed,
but for the film buffs, like you and me, it is a little noticeable.
But what stops the film from being completely derivative is the way
of telling that story. Instead of a human, we have a bear looking for
a home. And, along with the Browns, the neighbors and all the people
that Paddington gets to meet treat him like an ordinary human being,
even though he's from a completely different species. And that gets
really funny in some parts of the film. Before watching it, I only
felt attracted to it because Peter Capaldi (who played the Twelfth
Doctor in Doctor Who) was in it, but after watching it, I saw that
there's a lot of stuff to like there. The cast, which includes Hugh
Bonneville (from Downton Abbey), Sally Hawkins (from The Shape of
Water), Julie Walters (from Harry Potter and Mamma Mia), Nicole
Kidman, and it goes further; the visuals, which are very colorful and
vibrant; the camerawork, which is very symmetric, and it made me
think that this movie would do very well if it had been directed by
Wes Anderson; and the sense of humor, that keeps the kids entertained
and at the same time, hides some inside jokes for the grown-ups.)
E isso tudo foi só em
2014. 3 anos depois, veio “Paddington 2”, com a volta do diretor
e roteirista Paul King, e todo o elenco principal do filme original,
o que, convenhamos, é sempre uma coisa boa. Se o elenco do primeiro
filme não teve o peso suficiente, foram adicionados ao elenco do
segundo filme Hugh Grant e Brendan Gleeson, dois nomes de grande peso
no mercado de cinema britânico. E o filme repete quase a mesma
fórmula que fez o primeiro filme ser tão bom. E, diferente da
maioria das vezes, funcionou perfeitamente. Não é tão previsível
quanto o enredo do primeiro filme, mas repete algumas piadas que
marcaram o humor do primeiro, e referências como essas sempre são
bem-vindas. Todo o elenco está bom, cada um tem seu momento de
brilhar, mas quem rouba a cena no segundo filme é o Hugh Grant, que
está muito engraçado como um ator decadente forçado a trabalhar
como garoto-propaganda para uma marca de ração para cachorros. O
filme novamente capricha nos visuais, com um uso grande das cores em
tom pastel (mais uma referência ao estilo do Wes Anderson), tem uma
simetria perfeita no trabalho de câmera e tem um senso de humor
atraente tanto às crianças quanto aos adultos, e isso é sempre
bom. Se brincar, “Paddington 2” é o melhor filme que eu vi em
2018 até agora, e não é brincadeira, é porque é muito bom mesmo.
(And all that was in
2014. 3 years later, comes “Paddington 2”, with the return of
director-screenwriter Paul King, and the entire main cast of the
original film, which, let's say it, it's always a good thing. If the
cast of the first film wasn't heavy enough, the second film adds Hugh
Grant and Brendan Gleeson to the cast, two very heavy names on the
British movie market. And the film repeats most of the formula that
made the first film so good. And, unlike most times that is made on
movie franchises, it worked perfectly. It's not as predictable as the
plot from the first film, but it recycles some jokes that marked its
humor, and references like that are always welcome. The whole cast is
good, each one has their moment to shine, but the real scene stealer
here is Hugh Grant, who is really funny as a decadent actor who is
forced to work for ads on dog food. The film again has rapturous
visuals, with a strong use of pastel colours (another reference to
Wes Anderson's style), it has a perfect symmetry on the camerawork,
and the sense of humor is as attractive to kids as it is to adults,
and that is always good. Speaking for real, “Paddington 2” is the
best movie I've seen in 2018 so far, and that's not kidding, it's
because it's really, really good.)
Resumindo, a franquia
“Paddington” tem dois filmes fantásticos, visualmente atraentes,
com elencos extremamente talentosos, capazes de encantar tanto o
público infantil quanto o público adulto. E se for possível,
assista no idioma original para ouvir o quanto a voz de Ben Whishaw
combina com a fofura do ursinho. Mal posso esperar pelo futuro dessa
promissora franquia!!

“Paddington” franchise has two fantastic, visually attractive
films, with extremely talented casts, which are capable to warm the
hearts of children and adults, boosted by Ben Whishaw's amazingly
cute voice performance as the title character, which fits him
perfectly. I can't wait for the future of this promising franchise!!
